General Info

Once featured in the Sunday Times `25 Great British holiday rentals`, this detached property is beautiful both inside and out. The cottage is a delightful example of a truly blissful country retreat with its thatched roof, cosy but spacious interior and wonderfully manicured gardens. It provides a feeling of tranquility and seclusion as soon as you enter its driveway with everything a country goer may want and yet within walking distance of the little village of Barton Stacey with a pub, church and village shop. It is also within easy reach of the historic City of Winchester with its excellent shopping and restaurants.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

Riverside Cottage is an hour away from London off the A303 and there is plenty to do in the area. The Test Valley around Stockbridge is well worth exploring as is Winchester with its famous cathedral. Salisbury, Romsey and the New Forest are all within a 30 minute drive and Southampton and the Hamble are just 20 minutes away. The cottage is in a little hamlet called Bransbury, but it is also close to the village of Barton Stacey with a beautiful church, post office, pub and shop. This is perfect countryside for long walks, horse riding and fishing, as well as trips to the beach and afternoons spent in village pubs.

Interior Details
The interior is bright and spacious yet also cosy and the whole space has been skilfully refurbished while also retaining original features like the wonderful wooden beamed ceilings. Downstairs you enter through a large entrance hall, which leads on to a living room (complete with TV/DVD/video/CD and board games) and a kitchen with all the mod cons as well as a lovely traditional Aga. The sitting room has an open fire to keep you warm on winter nights, and there are other wood burners throughout the cottage. On the ground floor you will also find a children`s snug with a TV and a splendid conservatory with dining space for at least 10. In addition there is a utility/boot room and a bedroom/study. Upstairs there are a further four bedrooms so altogether the cottage can sleep 8 comfortably, with the possibility to accommodate extras. The cottage has one en-suite bathroom, a family bathroom, a shower room and a separate WC.

Exterior Details
The extensive grounds are made up of a variety of lawns and terraces and the surrounding area is classic English countryside, characterised by villages, valleys and rolling green fields. The cottage is surrounded by 5 acres of grounds, which encompass a large private lawned garden with a swimming pool and a terrace with views over a paddock. Furniture and a BBQ have been provided and it is hard to imagine a more idyllic setting for breakfast or dinner al fresco. The garden contains a climbing frame and trampoline, and the river and swimming areas are fenced off and gated, so the grounds are perfect for children.

The olive oil is harvested organically in Orgiva and then cold pressed and shipped to Hampshire where it is bottled and labelled, and it is delicious to cook with, pour on salads or simply dip into. Riverside Cottage is also the perfect place for corporate retreats and the tranquillity and stunning surroundings are very conducive to productive meetings and team building events. Conditions of Rental
Our cottage offers the best kind of flexibility/there is no formal check in day or departure, simply tell us your needs and we will try to accommodate them. The cottage is self-catering but if you would like any combination of catering we can help. We can offer a full time chef if you need it or frozen meals to be left for your arrival or indeed just a breakfast box with newspapers for your first morning or indeed every morning or if you’d like us to help you plan a summer BBQ, cocktail party or special occasion simply ask. No pets and no smoking. The cottage is wheelchair friendly and suitable for the elderly but some of the footing is wobbly like an old house should be. There is ample off street parking. All central heating is provided as is Egyptian cotton bed linen, but towels are not included.
