Set within a walled garden on the Galloway House Estate, this charming cottage is in a world of its own. With its own enclosed garden and heated swimming pool, and just a stone’s throw from the sea, it is a lovely base from which to explore this beautiful corner of Scotland. Specifically for adults only.
Pavilion Cottage sits within the walled garden of Garlieston House on the Galloway House Estate, former home to the Earls of Galloway. Rigg Bay, a safe, secluded, sandy beach, is just a 5 minute walk away, and beyond the garden walls is the tranquil arboretum of Galloway House Gardens. A wood burning stove and under floor heating keep the cottage wonderfully cosy for when you want to stay indoors, and the grounds offer plenty of space in which to explore and relax. But when you want to venture out, the rolling countryside and the Galloway Hills, not to mention the coast, are on your doorstep and this region has a huge amount to offer.
The cottage is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, and Galloway is a wonderful outdoor playground. The Galloway Hills are a wild upland region dotted with lochs, and you could either attempt a strenuous ascent of the Merrick or opt for a low level stroll around Glentrool. This region is a cyclist’s paradise and the 7stanes mountain biking trails are on your doorstep, as well as some gentler pathways. There are several excellent golf courses nearby, you can go trout and salmon fishing, or you could head for the coast and go sailing, windsurfing or sea kayaking. The wildlife in this part of the world is plentiful and varied, and you are likely to spot everything from badgers and ospreys to seals and dolphins, not to mention numerous species of bird. Alternatively you could visit the stone circles at Drumtroddan and Torhouse, the castles at Cardoness and Cruggleton (to name but a few), the gardens at Galloway House and the museum at Broughton House.
