A secluded roof terrace overlooking an enchanted valley is a rare treasure but that’s exactly what you’ll find at Akasha, a lovingly restored gite in a peaceful French hamlet. Come and escape to this magical little spot.
Sensitively restored using ecological building techniques and materials, Akasha resonates a beautiful energy and is full of light and warmth. The old wood and natural stone are offset by the curves of the simple plastered stone walls, picture windows welcome the wild valley into the bedroom (what an idyllic way to wake up!) and the roof terrace is perfect for breakfast, yoga and sleeping out under the stars. This tranquil little bolthole in the foothills of the Pyrenees is the ideal base from which to explore the ruggedly picturesque Ariege region.
The property lies between Foix and St Girons in the midst of the Seronais National Park, and there is a huge amount to see and do in the immediate area. Foix itself has a magnificent castle and several museums, St Lizier is a UNESCO site, St Girons hosts one of France’s most colourful vibrant markets, Le Maz d’Azil has an impressive grotto, and Labouiche is home to Europe’s longest underground river trip. Nearby you can walk, cycle, play golf, horse ride and swim in lakes and rivers, or you could visit Castelnau Durban (just 2.7km away) and soak up the traditional French ambience in one of the bars and restaurants. And don’t forget the medieval settlement at Carcassonne, the castle at Montsegur or the ski resorts just 90 minutes away.
