Set on a mountainside and hidden away at the top of a short road, the Tuscan Mountain Cottage is a rustic hideaway which offers breath-taking views, fresh air and a healthy dose of good old fashioned peace and quiet.
The house is part of a solid stone built farmhouse in an area full of national parks, forests and walking trails. The style is traditional, with cotto tiled floors downstairs, chestnut floors upstairs and exposed wood beams throughout, and its simplicity is very much its appeal. The area is heaven for walkers, wildlife lovers and keen cyclists, the food here is exceptional (there are a number of excellent restaurants within an easy drive) and stunning towns like Sansepolcro, with its churches and Piero della Francesca paintings, and Monterchi, a wonderful hilltop Tuscan town, are just a stone’s throw away. Whether you’re exploring the countryside, relaxing in the village pizzeria or just enjoying the incredible views, this is the perfect cottage from which to discover the real Tuscany.
Although it sits in a wonderfully quiet position, the house is in fact just 5 minutes from the E45 motorway, 500 yards from a weekend pizzeria, 4km from a shop and 8 minutes from a town with all the facilities you might need. The Valtiberina area of Tuscany is more unspoilt than the westerly parts and yet it has some fantastic attractions of its own Don’t miss the Piero della Francesa trail, Anghiari, Caprese Michelangelo (Michelangelo's birthplace), and La Verna (where St Francis received his stigmata). The house is an easy day trip’s distance from Florence (a stunning 2 hour drive through the hills), Lucca and Pisa (2 hours), Siena (1.5 hours), Chianti (1 hour) and the beautiful Arno valley (45 minutes). It is also not far from the Adriatic Riviera (1 hour), San Marino, Umbertide, Perugia (45 minutes), and Assisi.
