Maison de Beauport is a magical house perched on the edge of a freshwater lake in Brittany, just a minute’s walk from the sea and the 13th century Abbaye de Beauport. Inside is an eclectic mix of antiques, contemporary furniture and unusual features, whilst outside offers natural beauty and wildlife literally on the doorstep. If you're looking for a holiday with family or friends in France, then this is a fantastic choice.
Maison de Beauport was built in the late 19th century on the edge of L’Etang de Beauport, a lake created by the monks from the neighbouring Abbaye in 1202. The entire surrounding area is owned by the French equivalent of the National Trust so is beautifully maintained and protected and is a haven for wildlife of all kinds. The house is a five-minute drive from Paimpol harbour with its restaurants, cafes and shops, medieval streets and weekly market. The interior of the house is well-equipped and beautifully furnished, a lovely mixture of antique style, quirky character and relaxing home comforts.
From Paimpol, you can take a ride on the Vapeux de Trieux steam train ride to the town of Pontrieux, famous for its wash-houses and river trips. L’Arcouest, where the ferry leaves for the car-free Ile de Brehat, renowned for its Mediterranean-style gardens and micro-climate is just fifteen minutes away. The beautifully renovated Abbaye de Beauport, which hosts concerts and nocturnal spectaculars, is just over the road from the house. You can take a walk along the coast to the oyster buildings to choose your own fresh from the sea. There are beaches within walking distance and there are plenty of opportunities for activities such as walking, cycling, golfing, horse riding, tennis, sailing, kayaking and other watersports. The whole area is very Celtic in atmosphere and traditional Breton Fest Noz take place throughout the year, especially in summer.
