It is England’s largest inland county and borders 6 other counties. It is most notable for its countryside, and lots of people come here to find a holiday house in Shropshire where they can get away from it all, go walking, birdwatching, and generally make the most of the green spaces. The Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty covers about a quarter of the county, mainly to the south. There are lots of walking trails in this area from gentle strolls to challenging hikes. If castles are your thing, then you’ve got 32 to choose from and your holiday house in Shropshire could well be within easy distance of a few of them! Gardeners will also not be disappointed, as Shropshire is home to over 20 national collections. The county town is Shrewsbury and is well worth a visit as it is culturally and historically important. If you are a foodie, then head for Ludlow, with its high concentration of Michelin starred restaurants and its exquisite delicatessens. Don’t miss the Ironbridge gorge area (a UNESCO world heritage site) where you can see the world’ first iron bridge spanning the River Severn.
