One-Off Feature

Dating back to 1670 this grade two listed cottage in the Cotswolds is situated in the unspoilt village of Southrop and has been beautifully restored to give you luxury and indulgence indoors, and the delights of the Cotswolds on your doorstep.  Winner of a bronze award at the South West Tourism awards in the self-catering accommodation of the year award category 2021-22.

General Info

The house is decorated throughout with natural fabrics and original art pieces. In the restoration of this house we have used only local craftsman and natural materials. From limestone flag flooring to oak doors, we have endeavoured with every addition or restoration to bring a very old cottage back to life. Southrop village like Shilton is another small unspoilt Cotswold village with an excellent gastropub The Swan and there is a community run village shop, which opens every Wednesday morning. Extensive shopping is available nearby however in nearby Burford, Fairford and Lechlade.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

The house is in a fantastic position at the gateway to the Cotswolds. You can discover a myriad of pretty villages and historic towns such as Oxford, Bibury, Burford, Cirencester, Cheltenham, Warwick, Stratford Upon Avon and Bath or just stay close by and take a walk over the fields or a boat on the nearby Thames. In fact nearby Burford was recently voted one of the six most idyllic places to live in Europe. The closest shopping towns to Shilton are Burford and Carterton. They both have a range of shops. The town of Lechlade to the south is on the banks of the Thames and is well worth a visit and has a small selection of shops. The most comprehensive range of shops in the area however, can be found in Witney and further on Oxford has most of the national shops that are present in every major city.

Accommodation Details

Interior Details

Culls comes with all the luxury and indulgence you would expect, widescreen TV's in the lounge and master bedroom, DVD and CD player, free wireless internet. The kitchen is fully equipped for the keen chef with global knives, professional saucepans, Riedal wine glasses and the essential espresso coffee machine. Central heating warms the upper floor whilst downstairs there is under floor heating throughout and also an inglenook fireplace in the lounge with wood burner.

Exterior Details
The garden was very overgrown when we took it on and little could be saved in the 1/4 acre plot but it has now been landscaped by Chelsea Flower Show, award winning gardeners, from Newington Nurseries. Over the coming months this large garden will start to come into its own with continued new planting. The large willow which dominated the garden and is the focal point of the garden has been carefully pollarded so that its new growth in the spring will provide welcome shade during the heat of the summer.

Further Details
Culls Cottage has five stars and a Gold award for service and excellence from Enjoy England. We are also currently awaiting our green tourism award grading. The Swan at Southrop (the local pub) has won the best restaurant of the year award from Which voters so you're in a great place for food and drink!
