But of course, if you’re thinking of renting a cottage in Cambridgeshire then Cambridge itself would be the obvious place to start. The college buildings are unquestionably impressive and atmospheric, and you can take guided tours of some of the bigger ones. But you can also spend your time wandering round the cobbled streets, punting on the River Cam, visiting art galleries and museums, browsing independent shops and boutiques, strolling through the Botanic Garden or sitting in traditional tea rooms savouring coffee and cake as you watch the world go by. And if you’re going to rent a place in Cambridgeshire don’t forget the other towns and cities, like Ely with its majestic Normal cathedral and Wisbech with its wonderful Georgian architecture. If you’re looking for a taste of the beautiful British countryside, a cottage in Cambridgeshire is an ideal choice. South Cambridgeshire, with its chalk hills, beech woods and rolling fields, is particularly scenic, with plenty of opportunities for walking and cycling, and all around the county there are rural villages with traditional pubs waiting to welcome you. You could go horse riding and angling, explore one of the local nature reserves, or head into the Fens in the east of the region for a real outdoor adventure. Alternatively, take the children to Shepreth Wildlife Park or visit the National Trust owned Wimpole Estate. Holiday cottages near Cambridge offer something for everyone.
