El Tejar is the highest house in a quiet village near Ronda with panoramic views of the beautiful Grazalema mountains. The house, which was once a terracotta tile factory, has been beautifully converted and has featured in several design magazines. It is decorated in ethnic Andalusian style but has every creature comfort including daily home help, sat TV and fast internet access with desk top iMac and wifi. An exquisite one off place.
Base elements of whitewashed beams and terracotta floors have been stylishly combined with warm colour washes in this exquisite villa in Andalucia. There are hundreds of books, CD players in all rooms, a desktop computer with broadband connection and many paintings and prints. Bedrooms have the same bright/ethnic feel: linen is top of the range, mattresses too, and all are big on space with stunning views. The help of a housekeeper is included in the rental price: Francisca cleans and can, if you wish, prepare you delicious Andalusian meals. One Off Places guests also receive a welcome bottle of cava and a copy of 'Walking in Andalucía' - written by the property owner.
Montecorto is a quiet, friendly village. There are a number of bars and restaurants including one in the pine forest where you can have al fresco meals. There is a bakery, four small grocery stores, banks and chemists. A lot of the fruit and vegetables for sale in the village come from the fertile terraces beneath the village. If you prefer to shop in supermarkets, there are a couple on the outskirts of Ronda. We provide arriving guests with a booklet listing our favourite bars and restaurants, interesting visits in the area, maps of the village, of Ronda and of the surrounding area, a history of the house and general information about the villa in Andalucia. The owner of El Tejar is the author of 'Walking in Andalucía' and can provide walkers with a full week of walking itineraries in the area. Jerez is just an hour away and Granada, Sevilla and Málaga can all be easily visited as day trips. And two of the prettiest of the 'pueblos blancos', Grazalema and Zahara.
Jerez is the nearest airport, a 1 hour drive away. Sevilla (90 mins), Málaga (90 mins) and Gibraltar (120 mins) are all easily accessible from El Tejar. To drive to Montecorto from Bilbao and Santander takes a full day ie approx 10 hours driving time.

All bedrooms have top of the range mattresses, excellent linen and attractive bathrooms with both shower and bath, except for one, which has a shower room (and a small dressing room). All bathrooms have heated towel rails. Sinks are marble topped and all bathrooms have attractive ceramic tiling. The beamed kitchen leads off from the dining room and is fully equipped. There is a gas oven, a double sink, dishwasher, kettle, toaster and microwave. The living area has a large sofa, satellite TV, comfy chairs, an extensive library on Andalusia and Spain and views out to the distant mountains. The dining room has a beautiful table which sits 8/10 and attractive low lighting. Washing machine and a separate tumble dryer with ironing board and iron.
There are a number of shaded terraces surrounding the house with a spectacular lozenge-shaped pool sculpted into the hillside. The gardens are delightful: there are almonds, citrus, palms, bougainvillea, bignonia, pomegranate and quince trees and thick stands of bamboo.
2 hours of daily cleaning help from a charming, and very discreet, Spanish maid is included in the weekly rental price for this villa in Andalucia. What is so unique about El Tejar is that, if you should wish, Francisca can also prepare meals for you. She can either prepare a wide range of 'tapas' for you - these are made in her own home and then delivered to you for your lunch or dinner. Or she can also cook a full 3 course meal three course meal (minimum of 4 people) which will be served to you at your candlelit dining table. Francisca uses organically grown vegetables from her husband's vegetable plot, proper stock in her soups, and prepares delicious meat and fish dishes. She will serve you at dinner and clean up once coffee/herbal teas have been served in the sitting room or beneath the stars on the terrace.
