One-Off Feature

Sitting in a paddock surrounded by fields full of sheep are two cosy and luxurious shepherd’s huts, traditional and rustic yet also comfortable and contemporary. This is the ultimate quirky glamping experience. VisitEngland accredited.

General Info

Shepherd’s huts are a traditional feature of the rural landscape and have been used since 1596 – perhaps not always with king size beds and toilets though! These huts have been lovingly built by local craftsmen using traditional methods. They are made of wood with corrugated roofs, and have metal wheels (having been designed to be towed into the fields by tractors or steam traction engines). Fully insulated, they are warm and snug all throughout the year (even in the snow!) and provide all the home comforts you could want and need, from huge beds and tea and coffee making facilities to hot showers and flushing toilets. Our huts are named after breeds of local sheep – Dorset Down and Horn and Poll – and their interiors reflect a sheep-like theme. The huts even have their own shepherd’s crooks!

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

This is spectacular walking countryside, and there are several walks which start right on your doorstep. Stroll through fields and woodland to the Horton folly tower, admire the views and wildlife on the way to Verwood or West Moors, visit the historic Church Henge or marvel at the carpet of bluebells in Haythorne Wood. Remedy Oak golf club is within walking distance of Drusilla's and fishing lakes are literally just around the corner.Dorset is also the perfect place for cycling, horse riding, golf, angling and a variety of water sports, and there are glorious beaches, stunning gardens, and ancient forts to explore. Take a boat trip around the Jurassic Coast, browse some of the independent art galleries and boutiques, or sample delicious local produce at one of the many farmers’ markets, tea rooms and traditional country pubs.

Accommodation Details

Interior Details
Each hut is equipped for comfort with dazzling white sheets, cosy duvets, fluffy towels, soft fleecy blankets, tea and coffee and a welcoming Dorset surprise. The bathroom has a heated towel rack so your towels are always toasty warm, and there is another radiator in the bedroom. Umbrellas and torches have been supplied to help you to find your way safely into Drusilla’s, and a motion sensitive outside light helps too. Cast iron hanging hooks are provided for clothes and there is plenty of room for cases under the bed.

Exterior Details
Ample parking is available in Drusilla’s huge car park which is only a few seconds’ walk from the huts. In the summer, outside furniture and a fire cage with logs is provided so you can sit out under the stars and toast marshmallows! The dark skies in this part of the world are perfect for stargazing.

Further Details
The huts sit in the grounds of Drusilla’s Inn, a 250 year old thatched Wessex free house. The huts are let on a B&B basis and breakfast (including tea or coffee) is served between 9am – 11am in Drusilla’s (earlier by prior arrangement). We serve a traditional shepherd’s breakfast similar to those the shepherds would have cooked for themselves, so our breakfasts feature typical farm produce like eggs, bacon and sausages. Other types of breakfast are available by prior arrangement.

Conditions of Rental
Prices per hut per night include linen and heating (plus a fire cage, logs, a toasting fork and marshmallows in the summer). Last minute deals are available on request. We require a deposit of the cost of the first night of your stay and the balance is due on departure. Arrival time is from 3pm and departure is by 11am. Dogs are not permitted in the huts.
