General Info

22 Calle de Ermita is a beautiful 3 bedroomed house in the Andalucian village of Mairena. The house was renovated in 2008 from 2 adjoining properties (an old village house and a newer garage and storage space) and the result is a cool, light, spacious sanctuary in one of the most beautiful areas of Spain. The large south-facing roof terrace provides uninterrupted views over the rugged, undulating peaks and vales of the Alpujarras and the house is delightfully unpretentious – it has spacious rooms and all the mod cons and yet it has a relaxed, rustic character which is hard to beat. If you want somewhere to escape and unwind, where you can watch sunsets, go for scenic walks and laze in the Andalucian sun, then this house fits the bill perfectly.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

The house is situated in the small village of Mairena, which is high in the foothills of Sierra Nevada on the slopes of the Alpujarras mountains. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty and ecological diversity and it isn’t hard to see why. The back door of the house leads out onto the renowned GR7 walking route, which is just one of the hiking trails in the area. The village, which is surrounded by olive and almond terraces, has a population of around 200, however despite its diminutive size it has a local shop and an excellent restaurant (open subject to seasonal demand). Ugija, which has a food market, supermarkets and other amenities, is also just 10km away. Mairena sits on the edge of the Parque Natural and is just a few kilometres from the Sierra Nevada National Park. It is also just an hour’s drive to the resort of Almerima and 30 minutes from the nearest cross-country skiing resort at Puerto de la Ragua and 1hr 45 minutes from the main ski resorts outside Granada.

Interior Details
The house has a large open-plan kitchen/dining/living room with high ceilings and plenty of furniture on which to relax, from the settee and rocking chair to the dining table which seats up to 8 people. From here, double doors lead out onto the fantastic roof terrace where you can soak up the endless views of the surrounding countryside. The house has 3 double bedrooms (one of which is en-suite) and 2 bathrooms, both of which have baths, showers and toilets. The kitchen is well-equipped with the usual appliances as well as a dishwasher and washing machine, the living room contains a CD player, and there are wood burning stoves in both the living area and the entrance hall so you can keep cosy on those cooler nights.

Exterior Details
The feature of this lovely house which really stands out is the sensational roof terrace. South-facing, with views on 3 sides which stretch for miles around, this is a truly awe-inspiring spot and you are likely to want to spend all your time out here, whether reading and sunbathing or eating breakfast, lunch and dinner at the round table.

Conditions of Rental
Towels and bedding are included and full cleaning takes place at changeover. The house has central heating throughout and of course the wood burning stoves will also keep you warm. If you would like, we can offer a half board option, with meals taken at a restaurant in the village (this needs to be arranged in advance). We also offer a pre-arrival food shop should you require it. The house has a garage where you can park your car securely.
