One-Off Feature

This Tanzanian ecolodge is perfectly situated right on the Indian ocean, at the entrance to Saadani National Park which is home to four of Africa’s Big Five.  Sleep in an elevated bush banda, or a spacious sea-view bungalow.  Sit on your veranda listening to the sounds of nature, watching the amazing birdlife, and enjoy the white coral sand beach and wildlife galore.

General Info

This is a little piece of paradise with a stunning beach and lots of untouched indigenous coastal nature.  Take a stroll on the white sand beach where you won’t meet a soul, watch the dhows on the horizon and inhale the fresh ocean air.  Nestled behind the beach is the ecolodge, where you can stay in either a cosy elevated bush banda, or a spacious sea view bungalow.  No room is more than 50m from the beach, but they are separate enough to ensure privacy for all the guests.  The accommodation is run on solar power, always conscious of its environmental impact without compromising any mod cons.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

There are three things to come to Tembo Kijani for - beach, safari and relaxation.  All three are here - in abundance!  Saadani National Park is just a couple of kms south of Tembo Kijani and is unique for being the only National Park in Tanzania on the Indian Ocean coast, and one of just a few where you can go on a boating safari.  Saadani is home to four of the Big Five - elephants, lions, buffaloes and leopards.  There are also giraffes, gazelles, antelopes, monkeys and amazing birdlife.   You can explore the park by car, foot or by boat.  Hear the elephants crashing through the bush, pass herds of reedbucks, waterbucks and hartebeests grazing, watch giraffes feeding, see large herds of buffaloes snorting at you.  Take a boat trip up the Wami River to spot hippos and crocs.  The birdlife is amazing - take a walking safari in the mangrove systems and salt pans just next to the lodge to see weavers, kingfishers, spoonbills, flamingoes, storks, ibises and many more.

Accommodation Details

Interior Details
The accommodation is made up of bush bandas and beach bungalows.  The bush bandas are elevated 2m from the ground to benefit from the refreshing sea breeze.  Simple but comfortable, they provide you with a bedroom with canopy bed and fan, an ensuite bathroom with shower and toilet, beach towels and handmade toiletries. The three beach bungalows are right on the beach and are a more spacious option.  They have a king sized canopy bed, en suite bathroom and a separate living room.

Exterior Details
Each accommodation has an outside area where you can sit and listen to the waves and the wildlife.  You are welcome to enjoy wandering around the ecolodge, and of course, you have the white sand beach on your doorstep.

Further Details
Temperatures on the Indian Ocean coast are mild all year round, with the hottest time being Dec - Feb.  The heavy rainy season is mid April to mid June.  There is a wonderful restaurant on site.  Fruits and fresh baked goods for breakast, light snacks for hot lunchtimes and a set four course menu for dinner, as well as a well stocked bar.  A place - remote, quiet and relaxing - where the sun, the white beach, the soft breeze, and an amazing view are part of the experience. To keep this magical place as untouched as possible, Tembo Kijani is built in a way that impacts its environment as little as possible - our philosophy is to take what nature gives and give back to nature.
