General Info |
|
| |
The Lodge was conceived of, and built, as a model of sustainable construction. The plastered hay bale walls create a super-insulated building, cool in summer, warm in winter. Lumber was sawn onsite from local wind fallen cedar timber. Sidewalks and fireplaces are of local stone. All energy is from renewable sources: electricity for lighting and heating is generated by a small on site hydroelectric turbine, gas for cooking is produced by a methane digester which processes organic wastes, and a managed woodlot provides firewood for supplemental heating needs. While the development of our farming and gardening techniques, building practices, and alternative energy sources were primarily the result of adaptations made necessary by our remote location, many visitors find them to be of great practical interest. With this in mind, educational lectures and courses on these subjects are available for scheduling throughout the season. |

Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation |
|
| |
The Lodge, comprising 700 private acres, nestles in a remote mountain valley within the 200,000 acre Rio Azul Protected Wilderness Area. Lush native forests and the ever present sounds of the cascading Azul and Encanto Blanco rivers define this place. We can promise that you will not be short of things to do while here. For those who want to relax, the sauna, hot tubs, relaxation room and riverside gravel beach and swimming hole are all on site. For the adrenalin junkies, there is a range of activities available directly from the lodge including trekking (day or overnight), horseback trips (day or overnight), white water sports (kayaking, rafting), mountain biking, canyoning and rock climbing. Sorry, no golf, no museums. |

Interior Details |
The Lodge was specifically designed with an emphasis on shared common spaces: evenings typically are spent together either around the fireplace, on the upstairs deck overlooking the river, or at the spa area relaxing after the day’s activities. There are seven bedrooms, most of which share bath facilities in order to minimize environmental impact.
All meals are prepared with organic products from the Confluencia farm: vegetables, fresh milk, eggs, meats, and hearty breads from whole grains harvested and stone-ground at the farm.

A short pathway through the woods connects the Lodge to the spa area with its wood-fired log sauna, cold plunge, and two outdoor cedar hot tubs all surrounded by a native hardwood deck with impressive views of the Azul River gorge some 200 feet directly below. Massage rooms, a yoga/relaxation room with radiant floor heat, dressing rooms, and showers are adjacent.

Further Details |
La Confluencia maintains it's own stable of horses for backcountry riding; rafts, kayaks and duckies for whitewater excursions; ropes and harnesses for climbing and rappeling; and English speaking certified guides for these activities as well as trekking and mountain biking. All these activities depart directly from the Lodge, thus avoiding transfers of any kind.
We invite guests for a vacation visit where luxury accommodations combine naturally with adventure activities, spa facilities, wholesome organic meals, and opportunities to gain useful, practical knowledge regarding sustainable living. La Confluencia is a project of the Land Ethic Action Foundation, a California 501(c)3. All revenues generated by visitor programs go to furthering the Foundation’s local sustainability initiatives.

What visitors have said about La Confluencia Wilderness Lodge |
| |
| |
This was my second visit to the Confluencia and I must say it even exceeded the wonderful recollections of my first stay.

...our family's best vacation, ever. Seriously, where else in the world could we have ridden horses in the backcountry, gone whitewater rafting, taken kayak lessons, spent an afternoon pressing fresh apple juice, and relaxed every evening in a hot tub after a great massage without ever having left the property?...
