General Info |
|
| |
At the turn of last century, a beautiful lodge in a unique design comprising vertical jarrah weatherboards and redwood shingling was built for the Swiss Consul - right on the escarpment. Gradually, a terraced, escarpment garden was created and steps leading down through it to Prince Henry Cliff Walk. During the 1930's a writer's retreat/library was also built, copying the lines of the main house. When the current owners bought the property in May 1997, it was in near-derelict condition, but fortunately the valuable interior and exterior timbers in both the retreat/library and main house could be saved. The painstaking restoration work involved recycling all the old materials wherever possible. Timbers featured include jarrah, redwood, Cyprus pine, blue gum, American oak, Oregon and Baltic pine. |

The Greater Blue Mountains has been listed as a World Heritage area due to its outstanding biodiversity and unique eucalypt vegetation. Cloudlands sits within this, backing directly onto National Park. There are numerous bushwalks and nature-based activities on offer in the region. Bird life is abundant (30% of all Australia's birds are found in this region) and guests staying at Cloudlands get an opportunity to see many parrrots, rosellas and other birds who visit at close range on a regular basis. Cloudlands provides easy access to Leura and Katoomba village centres, where visitors can enjoy a vibrant restaurant/cafe culture, numerous book and gift shops, antiques and vintage clothing. Several artisan bakeries are also here, producing excellent organic sourdough breads and featured extensively in our breakfast provisions! Interior Details |
There are 4 bedrooms – 2 double rooms with queen beds, 1 twin and 1 single. Our bedrooms with luxurious, environmentally-superior alpaca wool quilts are bathed in soft, sleep-inducing colours and are themed on Australian wildflowers. Beautiful linen and electric blankets are on all beds. The fully-equipped kitchen enables you to cook as much or as little as you like. You are within walking distance of several Blue Mountains restaurants. We also supply a variety of teas, coffees herbal teas, and a generous breakfast basket that looks like a bountiful harvest! Our beautiful oak-panelled lounge room with unusual beamed ceiling, conjures up another era, when life was a bit slower and there was time to sit by the fire reading a good book or just conversing with family and friends over tea/coffee and home-baked treats. Lift up the lounge room windows in Springtime and you’ll smell the lilac and magnolia blossoms of the Blue Mountains .
