General Info |
|
| |
Magnificent in its grounds and on the banks of the River Usk, Penpont lies in the middle of a 2000 acre working rural estate. The house is the centre piece of a remarkable group of buildings spanning various periods, including a church, Dower house, stables, workshops, a dovecote on stilts and a 19 century conservatory.
Around the house lie extensive grounds, sweeping lawns, the old Victorian rose and walled gardens, riverside and woodland walks and more recently constructed the Green Man Maze.
Time has stood still at Penpont for much of the last century. This has contributed greatly to the unspoilt charm and tranquility which characterise the house and grounds. However, over the last 17 years a challenging yet sympathetic restoration programme has been undertaken to restore the buildings to their former glory, maintaining the sense of history and place with an objective to develop a sustainable viable future for the next century. |

The gardens around the house are extensive, 45 acres, and include a wide range of habitats, from lawns to woodlands, ornamental to wild areas. The adjacent landscape and garden is listed as Grade 2*. The gardens are bisected by the River Usk which forms a natural divide from the south and north garden, and as it flows through it creates its own habitats of natural beauty, and an ideal swimming hole for warmer months. We have fishing rights for a mile of the river, fly only. Day tickets available in season. Organic vegetables are grown within the walled gardens and can be bought from the farm shop. There is a hard tennis court available for use. The large lawn to the front of the house is ideal for games of football, rounders or croquet.

Some comments for the visitor book
‘Absolutely fantastic time had by all, What a wonderful place’
We have had the most fantastic weekend of cycling and socialising I your magnificent home, and have all enjoyed ourselves immensely.
A lovely comfortable house for a sixtieth birthday celebration. We loved the elephants, the maze, the fresh vegetables, and the resident Heron.
Comfy beds, great atmosphere, fantastic lawn, beautiful gardens. Nice river too- oh and tennis, table and real! Roaming sheep and dogs, trees and outbuildings….We have had a wonderful time
Thank you for a wonderful relaxing holiday, the rooms are amazing, this large family fitted in very well. We will miss the tennis court in particular. The grounds are beautiful, especially along the river. The children loved all the space to explore
We did the 300 piece jigsaw and there are only 4 pieces missing not 9 !
Numerous, Penpont, May 2007
