  General Info  
  The 40-acre farm stands in an exceptionally private location, with direct access to the Brecon Beacons National Park behind the house, its own stretch of river for paddling in, a nature walk and acres of woods. Castle Farm consists of a lovely old farmhouse sleeping 10, a separate cottage for up to 7 and a studio style barn which has bunk beds for ten plus - 27 beds in total onsite. The large farmhouse and cottage are available for rent either individually or together, by the week, weekend or mid week break. Castle Farm is self-catering, but catering can easily be arranged. The dining room in the farmhouse has a 12-seat Georgian table, which can be extended to seat 16, while the light and airy kitchen has an Aga, a Butler sink, a 10 seat oak table and plenty of wooden workspace.  
 
  Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation  
  Ever experienced total silence or absolute darkness? The farm is situated on a hillside, in the middle of the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons, on the border of England and Wales. The setting is completely isolated, with not a neighbour in sight, yet is only 2.5 hours from London. The nearest (and best) pub is a hard three miles walk, or another is four miles by car. The novelist Bruce Chatwin used to stay here as a boy and must have been inspired to write On the Black Hill which was published in 1982. Activities such as riding, canoeing, rock climbing, fishing, cycling and clay shooting are all available within a few miles. Hay-on-Wye is famous for its many bookshops and the annual, literary Hay Festival in May. Foodies will be in heaven, pottering around the famous market at Abergavenny and trying restaurants such as The Walnut Tree and The Hardwick. For the more literary, Hay-on-Wye is seven miles away.

  Interior Details All the bedrooms have big, cosy beds, thick duvets, quality bed linen and plenty of homely touches. There are eight altogether, with four extra sets of bunks in the Barns. This is not a house for lovers of ensuite facilities, but there are three downstairs bathrooms in the farmhouse and cottage, and a shower room in the main barn. The Farmhouse is decorated in traditional country style, with big cosy sofas and chairs, painted brick walls, low wooden beams and a huge open fireplace in the farmhouse living room that's a joy to come home to at the end of a day in the fresh air. The house has gas central heating, washing machine and tumble dryer, CD HiFi with iPod connection. The Cottage is stylish and minimalist, again hugely comfortable. The cottage has night storage heating, washing machine and tumble dryer, Speakers for an iPod connection.

  Exterior Details This is a fabulous place for lovers of the great outdoors, with superb hill walking outside the door. Barbecues are actively encouraged, either next to the river or closer to the house. There's also a riding outfit round the corner for anyone who wants to go trekking.  
 
  Further Details The Main Farmhouse has 5 double bedrooms, 2 ground floor bathrooms and a large kitchen with Aga. The Cottage has two family rooms (double with single bed), 1 single room and one bathroom. The Granary Barn sleeps 2 adults and 2 children on bunk beds. The Granary is designed as a 'spill-over' room and can be hired to squeeze in 4 more people. It comprises 4 bunk spaces, two adult and two child sizes. There are no facilities so the nearest bathroom is in the main house. The main bunk barn can sleep 10 children / adults on bunk beds. There is no kitchen in the main bunk barn, there is a kettle, microwave and fridge plus some cutlery etc. All the units can be rented either individually or as a whole, except for the Granary which can only be rented along with the farmhouse. Our weeks run Friday to Friday, weekend breaks are available from Friday to Monday morning, mid-week breaks Monday to Friday. The farmhouse, cottage and the barn all have SKY Freeview TV, DVD player, Hi-Fi, a growing supply of books and all the usual utilities (washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher etc).

Rental
For both houses, the rental includes: High quality cotton linen. (Please note that towels can be provided at £3 per person). Heating and electricity. Enough wood for your first few fires (farmhouse only). Baby cot and high chair. Pets are allowed but their owners must bring their bedding and not allow them upstairs. Any extra cleaning will be chargeable. Please remember that Castle Farm is non smoking. With the exception of the Barn, 3-night weekend bookings are charged at 80% of the weekly rental, 4-night mid-week breaks are charged at 60% of the weekly rental. Check-in time is 5pm and check-out time is 10am. Bookings are confirmed with receipt of a deposit of 50% of cost of your stay. The remaining balance (which will include a sum for your housekeeping deposit) must be paid in full prior to 8 weeks before arrival.
