Located at the ancient Cappadocian mountain village of Akköy, Akköy Evleri is a unique establishment with internationally recognized pioneering activities in the areas of ecotourism and biotourism. It offers two forms of accommodation, a 9 room, terraced Cave Hotel and a 3 storey rock Museum House, Uvercinka. The Cave Hotel is owned and managed by Mehmet Güleç, a naïf architect born and raised in Akköy while the village was still fully inhabited back in 1960s. Uvercinka is owned and refurbished by Prof. Nergis Canefe, an artist and a human rights law scholar. As a jointly run facility, Akköy Evleri hosts small groups of nature and history lovers as well as families interested in agrotourism. Each room has a terrace of its own and the hotel has a cave bar and an open kitchen as well as 7 different gardens and orchards to serve organic food to the visitors. Uvercinka Museum House is particularly designed as a family residence, fully furnished and independent for long-term stays. |

The quality of the cave rooms make you feel cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Volcanic rock called "tuffa" is perfect insulation material. It keeps the temperature between 17 - 20 degrees Celsius throughout the year. All rooms are different from each other in their size, shape and qualities, but they each have the signature curves, texture, cupboards, fireplaces, arches and decorations characteristic of the region but also the village’s local civil architecture. All rooms are traditionally decorated and the cotton covers, carpets, kilims, wooden furniture, etc. are locally produced. However, each room also includes private stone shower and w/c, some rooms even a jacuzzi, hot water, wooden floors, luxurious bedding and IDD telephone service.

We arrived last night at 11.30, but we were greeted with a wonderful 3 course Anatolian meal. Thank you for the tranquillity, pleasant atmosphere and very comfortable accommodation. And the wonderful local wine. Mehmet is a very capable and pleasant host, nothing is too much trouble for him. It has been an exceptional and rejuvenating experience for us.
Ken and Lorraine Smith, Australia, Oct 2010

Thank you for the quiet night and the great room we had, which was just what I needed after spending the previous night in a bus. You cannot beat the incredible hospitality of the Turkish people and the beauty of the village.
Suleyman Rastagar, Afghanistan, Aug 2010

We stayed in your hotel for 3 days and it was truly wonderful. If I come to Turkey again, I will come back here. When I first saw the village and the hotel, I was so amazed, it is so different from anything we saw in Cappadocia, and really worth the effort to make the journey here.
Beatrice Hubert, USA, Dec 2009

Thank you very much for your wonderful hospitality. We much appreciated the opportunity to spend time in a Turkish village and to see something of village life. Everything was wonderful, the place, accommodation, meals, and the peace and tranquility of the village in particular. Staying here has been the highlight of our trip in Turkey.
