General Info |
|
| |
La Taupiniere is located in the small Alpine village of Moléson sur Gruyères, set high amongst the summer grazing pastures where cows produce the famous Gruyère cheese. The area is richly historical and spectacularly beautiful, sprinkled with idyllic towns and villages which each reflect the character of its region. Ssituated in the canton of Fribourg about 130km from Geneva in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, this is a superb and beautiful location for mountain activities like skiing, mountain biking and paragliding, but it is just as good for gentler pursuits like walking, golf and tennis. There is plenty to do within an hour’s drive of the chalet, more than enough to keep you amused for the duration of your stay, and the village has its own shop, restaurant-cafe, pizzeria, and ski shop. There aren’t many chalets in Switzerland with their own indoor pool and sauna, so La Taupiniere really offers something special. |

Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation |
|
| |
The village is well served for winter sports, including cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, paragliding and snowboarding. It has a ski school which teaches all of these, and within an hour’s drive of Moléson you will be able to ski world class resorts like Verbier, Villars, Mürren and Leysin. Switzerland is also a wonderful place in summer, whether you’re sightseeing and enjoying cultural visits or sailing on the lakes, walking in the mountains and summer skiing on the glaciers. The Moleson area is renowned for its splendid walking paths. In the village there are floodlit tennis courts, a mini-golf course, a children’s play area, archery lessons, petanque, a bob-luge and grass scooters, and trout fishing, windsurfing and pony trekking are also available locally. The more adventurous can rock climb, raft, paraglide, go canyoning, and take part in other ‘extreme’ sports. |

Interior Details |
Spread out over two storeys, the bedrooms are on the lower floor and the living area on the upper floor. The open-plan living area has generous, comfortable sofas set around the log fire and there is a good size coffee table as well as a CD player, a trunk full of games and puzzles, and plenty of books and magazines. The kitchen has patio doors leading onto the balcony and it is fitted with all the mod cons and all the crockery and utensils you’ll need. Also on this level are a large single bedroom and a separate WC. Down on the lower floor are two double bedrooms and one twin. The larger double has French windows leading onto the patio, and the lower floor is also equipped with a bathroom with twin basins and a bath with shower attachment. There is plenty of room to leave skis and coats at the entrance and in the hallway. The ’studio’, with its own separate entrance, has two sets of full-size bunk-beds and an en-suite washroom with WC.

Exterior Details |
The balcony, accessed by French doors from the living and dining space, wraps around three sides of the chalet and is predominately south-facing. The real luxury of the chalet is the heated 30ft pool and large sauna. The water is automatically heated, filtered and cleaned using an ultra-violet light system, so very little chlorine is needed. Glazed down one side, the pool room has glorious views onto the garden, down to the valley and up to the mountains, and there is a pool-side sitting area where you can relax. There is also a large shower unit. Doors lead out onto the terrace, the private garden is bordered by trees and shrubs, and there is a large patio with a table and benches for al fresco dining. The terrace and garden are idyllic in the summer and this is the ideal spot for barbecues and sunbathing; all in all the views and setting make this a wonderfully restful place.

Further Details |
The chalet is an ideal destination for family ski holidays - you are not stuck up a long and tortuous mountain road like many of the larger resorts, so it is easy to go to other ski areas or to take a day off skiing and do something different. There is plenty of skiing to suit all abilities, as well as plenty to do for the non-skiers. The beginner (or nursery) slopes are within sight of the chalet, some just 500m away and the main lift (a funicular railway) and is a further 100m. The skiing area in the village is from 1100m to 2000m altitude and there are eight lifts varying from T-bars, buttons and a large cable car. The 30km of pistes cater for all standards of skier from green to black runs, but with the majority being blue and red. The skiing is great for beginners and intermediates, but there is also enough to keep the more advanced skier amused for a few days.

What visitors have said about La Taupiniere |
| |
| |
Having paid hefty price tags for Alpine holidays in the past, my stay at La Taupiniere has proved to be a revelation. A superb , clean and welcoming Chalet that retains the traditional charms of the Alps yet with modern and up to date facilities. To be able to come home after a hard days skiing to a sauna and a swim is just the perfect way to round off the day. Ski hire and skiing was available on one's doorstep, and catered for all levels of proficiency, yet easily accessible by car were some of Switzerland's premier ski resorts. The town of Bulle is only fifteen minutes by car and provides the full range of facilities, bars, restaurants, banking, and sight seeing. Even closer is the beautiful medieval town of Gruyeres with its stunning architecture and fondue restaurants. I will happily be recommending La Taupiniere to friends and clients alike, and look forward to my next visit.
