  General Info
Golmar 13 sits in a tiny hamlet 200m above sea level, and looks down over green fields, black cliffs, and 90km of coast. Original features combine with thoughtful comfort (modern farmhouse kitchen, state-of-the-art green boiler, huge claw-foot bath, ping pong, mountain bikes, Satellite TV, broadband), to make this a place you won’t want to leave! But there is much to explore on Spain’s northern tip: stunning walks & rides from the door, an endless choice of breathtaking beaches, Europe’s highest sea cliffs, fishing villages, and castles. If all this sounds too much, just stay at home, leave the kids in the separate games room or splendid garden with majestic chestnut tree, & choose between the two huge drawing rooms in which to read, listen to music, or just keep gazing at that view & the boats way below (with our telescope and maps at hand). And then the sunset, each day a different spectacle.

  Accommodation details

  Activities Nearby Beach within 30km / Birdwatching / Canoeing / Cycling / Fishing / Horse Riding / Therapies / Walking / Watersports

Interior Facilities Cot / Highchair / Dishwasher / DVD player / Internet Access / Linen provided / Log Fire / Maid Service / Television / Washing Machine

Interior Details During the restoration of the house the original structure was maintained, which means there are large rooms and very high ceilings. There are two sitting rooms: a more formal one downstairs, with the open fire; and a less formal space upstairs, where you will find the TV and music system. Both rooms have a massive window looking out over the spectacular view. There is an annex, which is used as a games room (with table tennis, darts, and other games).

Exterior Facilities BBQ / Garden / Parking / Terrace

Exterior Details Golmar 13 sits in a mature garden on various levels, so there is always a quiet corner to be found! A substantial lawn in front of the house is ideal for games and there is a perfect chestnut tree for climbing (or hanging the two hammocks provided!). There is a protected eating area shaded by an apple tree with a large outdoor dining table and bbq. Hydrangeas, rhododendrons, bougainvilleas, and azaleas abound. Less than 50 years ago, the hamlet of Golmar was a thriving community, home to several families living off the land. The same families remain, but the numbers and activity are now greatly reduced. Walking around the hamlet today, you are likely to bump into some of the elderly neighbours by day and wild horses, foxes, deer, or boar by night! This is deepest Galicia: enjoy a night sky now difficult to find in Europe and listen to the sound of the surf pounding the cliffs 200 metres below!

Further Details Activities/excursions: Santiago was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985, and is a must! Ferrol is not Spain's most attractive city, but the Castle of San Felipe at the mouth of the bay is well worth a visit. La Coruña is also worth a trip: aquarium for youngsters and superb eating and clothes shopping (home to many of Spain's great designers) for parents. However, if it is physical activity you are after, the options are endless: hiking, biking, sea kayaking, surfing, wind and kitesurfing, sea and river fishing, bird watching, sailing, and horse riding. The owner can help organise all these for you. Route maps & bikes provided, so you can hike and bike from the front door; watch honey buzzards circling from the comfort of your armchair or take a guide on a converted trawler to see migratory seabirds; paddle a sea kayak off Spain's northernmost point; surf at a World Cup beach; learn to sail in the estuary; or try to outwit trout or sea bass on some of the most beautiful rivers you have ever seen! The local town (eating and beaches): 4km to fishing village of Cedeira, where you have supermarkets and a variety of other shops, restaurants, bars, and a couple of nightclubs. The rocky coast and clear water are the perfect environment for Spain’s most sought-after shellfish (on all the menus or, better still, cook them at home!). The most highly-prized seafood, percebes (goose barnacles!), grow at the base of Cedeira’s cliffs: don’t miss them, or the Russian roulette with mini green peppers (pimientos de padrón). This is also the land of the potato, so paradise for chip lovers! Spain's best beaches are along this stretch of coast (and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!). There are carpark-trembling surf beaches and secret coves, lined by chestnuts and oaks shading seabass while they have their siestas. There is a very protected beach in Cedeira itself, or drive (or kayak) to the other side of the estuary to Vilarrube where two rivers are separated by a stretch of sand that can surely claim to be the perfect beach!

What visitors have said about Golmar 13

Sometimes you see pictures of a place on Internet and don't believe it's true; here it is even better! Incredible! We had a fabulous time. Golmar 13 turns Galicia, Cedeira, Trasmontes into an even more special experience. We will definitely be back with more people. Really, thank you for putting so much heart into this house, which is obvious in so many details. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

A superb week! We had a fantastic time. Words can't describe this house. A thousand congratulations for such a beautiful and fun house, and your obvious enthusiasm.

The authenticity of this charming villa hits you at first sight. Every corner of the house is a story on its own and the cherry on the cake is the absolute amazing ocean view at your feet. Well worth the trip and the price. Only for nature lovers: you are at the door step of every type of outside activities. We were there with our children and they have just loved it. Hoping every single rental villa could be like this one. Congrats to the owners

Unforgettable. Beautifully maintained house, everything perfect and very tasteful. Unbeatable views, and the caretaker, manolo, delightful. As soon as we left, we were making our plans to return as soon as possible!

What are bookings like for next year? The local people all around are lovely and friendly and really nice to their children, a welcome break from the standard UK beach family, it was really noticeable, it made for a lovely atmosphere on the beaches and restaurants. We found the honey place and i think they were rather shocked but happy when we bought 6 large jars, we all love honey!

Golmar13 is a spacious and beautiful house with a compelling view of the romantic coastline which stretches away into the distance below. Inside, the house offers peace and comfort with well-proportioned rooms, muted colours, comfy beds and sofas for proper relaxation. We stayed alone, and did not eat out, preferring to cook at home in the well stocked kitchen…the only room which perhaps could do with a bit more light for middle aged eyes! We made good use of the house book which lists all sorts of exciting challenges for those of us who do not know the area (including cooking percibes bought from the supermercado in Cedeira). We swam happily at local beaches and wandered about the area. It was wonderful to have the house to return to, especially with its dishwasher and washing machine to take care of the banal. We spent much of the time wishing we had brought more of our family with us as we looked at the children’s books in the bedroom next to ours, and little ones would have had fun playing in the garden; however, we revelled in our seclusion, enjoying the roses, bougainvillea and magnolia grandiflora which was in flower at the end of the garden. Manolo was very attentive; although nothing went wrong one had confidence that anything that did go wrong would be attended to immediately. We could easily have stayed there for ever

We have just stayed in Golmar 13, which is a stunning house in a little hamlet set up in the hills above Cadeira, a beautiful little Spanish seaside town with the best seafood and tapas we have ever tasted. We were a family group of all ages and abilities ranging from my husband in a wheelchair, two sons and their wives and two grandchildren aged 5 and 3. The house has quite the most spectacular position and outlook. We spent the first evening sitting looking out to sea at headland after headland right to A Coruna whilst the sun set over the horizon and we lay in the garden of our house drinking our wine and thanking our lucky stars to be in such a beautiful spot. The house itself is great, with two sitting rooms all looking out to sea, some lovely pieces of Spanish furniture, comfortable and friendly rooms with lots of space to spread out and not get under each others feet. There was lots to do, some excellent mountain bikes to explore the hills with, some lovely local walks down to the cliffs overlooking the sea, passing through tiny fields belonging to the local farmers, walking along green ways or walking/jogging down to Cadeira through the eucalyptus forests and passing huge blooms of wild hydrangeas. The beaches are stunning and very like the best of Pembrokshire/Cornish beaches without the crowds. All the beaches varied from world class surfing beaches to little ones with rock pools, to calm, clean town beaches, perfect for my little ones to paddle and splash safely. All the beaches had wheelchair accessable ramps down to the sea and even wheelchair portaloos - I have never seen one in England down on a deserted beach! We visited A Coruna the largest town in Galicia, which boasts the longest esplanade in Europe running down one side from the lighthouse, and on the other side are the magnificent glass house balconies surrounding the harbour. We had a lazy lunch and wandered around the shops and stone paved cool streets and found it a lovely town to visit. Mostly we lazed, tried to do some painting of the view, swung in the double hammock, tried talking spanish with our lovely neighbouring farmer, drove to a beach for a swim or surf and then after feeding the little girls headed down to Cadeira for some tapas. Cadeira is very Spanish and no-one spoke English and there were no tourists except for a few surfers, so we really felt as if we were in a foreign country. A wonderful holiday and highly recommended.
