The cottage is about 5kms from Villanueva de la Vera - a charming village with good examples of local architecture in adobe and wood. People come from all over to witness its carnival celebrations and to buy excellent goats cheese and smoked paprika which are the local specialities. The cottage has almost a 360º view of the whole Gredos mountain range and the fertile tietar valley below where tobacco, peppers,kiwi, peaches and asparagus are grown. This area has a fantastic microclimate that also allows us to have citrus trees and bouganvillea in the garden. |

Interesting cultural visits in the area include the Yuste Monastery where Charles V retired to and lived with Hieroymite monks,the pretty mountain village of Guadalupe and stunning Basilica home to one of Spain's black virgins, heritage city of Trujillo cradle of the Conquistadores and undiscovered Plasencia, a surprisingly stunning medieval city. There are three lovely circular walks from the cottage and detailed maps are provided in a folder that also includes plenty of information about Extremadura, where to shop, find a bank etc...and ideas for half or full day trips. |

Getting There:
| From Madrid take the A5/R5 towards Badajoz. Exit 148 and follow signs to Madrigal de La vera. At crossroad in Madrigal turn left towards Plasencia.
At Km.74/petrol station signal left and take small tarmac road toward Vega de La Barca. After 800 mts take sandy track right and follow instructions and map provided. Directions from Seville/Merida provided upon request. We send detailed maps and directions upon confirmaion of booking. |

The cottage is open plan with a main living/bedroom area and separate well equipped kitchen and bathroom with full length bathtub.In the living room a cosy log fire and a well stocked library and a good selection of DVD´s. Electric heaters in all rooms for winter warmth.Firewood is included in the rental. All linen and swimming towels provided.
