General Info |
|
| |
Part of 'Refugio Marnes', this large piece of land contains contains an ancient finca, La Jaima and another small self catering property. All are beautifully secluded from one another. 'Refugio Marnes' is situated in the province of Alicante on the Costa Blanca, 8 Kilometres (15 minutes by car) from the main road from Benissa to Calpe (N332) and approximately 55 minutes to Alicante. Valencia lies in the opposite direction approximately 1 hours drive north. The nearest beaches are 30 minutes by car. Marnes is situated in the Sierra de Bernia which is a small mountain chain that stretches about 20 Kilometres inland. It is not touched by mass tourism, and for the most part is declared a 'protected area'. Here you can find an enormous richness of fauna: wild boar, ginettas, martens, ermines and weasels. Several reptiles and a wide variety of small birds, owls, falcons, buzzards and even eagles co-exist. |

Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation |
|
| |
In the nearby village of Pinos you will find two restaurants and a little church. Only 10 minutes drive away is Bernia where there are two more restaurants. When you want the 'civilised world', within 15 minutes, you have Benissa and Jalon, the nearest towns. Valencia to the north, and Alicante to the south, are well worth visiting. In Jalon, Benissa and Calpe there are opportunities for horse riding and numerous other activities. The area is famous with climbers and the nearest climbs are accessible by car and are just a few minutes away from Refugio Marnes. You are approximately 30 minutes by car from the coast, so for beach and aquatic activities you have many options. The coast can become crowded in mid-summer, but there are nearby beaches and ´Calas´ that are unspoiled and that can make you forget you are in a tourist area. |

Exterior Details |
With 25 hectares of unspoiled land, you will not be short of places to explore. There is also an 11x4.5m swimming pool for your use (to be shared if there are occupants in the other property). The swimming pool is constructed as an 'Alberca' water deposit and resembles the swimming pools on the Balearics, with their white walls and sea green water. Refugio Marnes is, above all, a place to rest; getting away from the hustle and bustle of life. Here, you can read a book, soak up the sun, have a swim or fall asleep under the shade of a tree, simply enjoying the sounds of nature. The immediate surroundings of Refugio Marnes are an excellent place to have a long stroll or mountain walk.

Further Details |
Flora: next to the olive and almond trees, are carobs and prickly pears (cactus). Whilst the area is dominated by big pines, the more original vegetation, mediterranean oaks are also to be found. Depending on the time of year, herbs like rosemary, camomile, thyme, and lavender add their spicy aroma to the area. Spring starts with the flowering of the almond trees which is spectacular, providing a sea of blossoms. The flowering season for all plants continues until July. There is a second period of flowering and growth after the first rainfall in autumn.

What visitors have said about La Jaima |
| |
| |
we booked La Jaima the Bedouin Tent at Refugio Marnes for a week in July. We took our children 8 & 11 so only booked a week thinking they may get bored as it was very isolated - wished we had booked for two!! It was fantastic! Kids loved it as much as we did. Willem and Richard couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful. I would recommend it to anyone and we will certainly be returning next year!

Thank you for finding such a wonderful location. Being able to wake up and look out to such a breathtaking view is something very special. During our stay I was able to forget about time, date……. And fully relax. I DON’T WANT TO LEAVE!!!

The Noisy world is still at bay, Amongst this ancient terraced hills, An Ancient land in flowered May
Is still untouched by human ills, But even in spring the skies are sometimes grey, As clouds well up above the human mills, And thoughtless go their heavy humorless way, Bearing the weight of countless human wills
Will this last this calm, this peace? Will the spoilers finally see the light? Ore will the ruination of spring increase, As hordes of aimless armies bring blight on blight, Complacent dreams bring instant release, From agonized doubt and clear eyed fright, But to live is to hope and hope will not cease
Before May flowers curl in perpetual night,

"Breathtaking, beautiful location, orginal and tranquil accommodation, just what we were looking for. We were surprised to find such a beautiful spot in an area I thought I knew very well already, truly enjoyed the Moorish tent experience."
