A holiday in a yurt - one of our yurts - is the perfect way to enjoy the stunning scenery, allowing you to get back to nature without forgoing the usual luxuries you would wish for on your holiday. The yurts have private bathrooms, as well as an acre of private meadow with hammocks and comfortable shaded seating areas. Fall asleep lulled by the sound of goats' bells and crickets. Lounge in a hammock in the shade of a giant cork oak tree. Cool off with a dip in our refreshing chlorine-free swimming pool, surrounded by blue mountains and the beauty of nature. The peace and tranquillity of the location is what makes The Hoopoe so special. |

Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation |
|
| |
The local area has plenty to offer. Ride out into the countryside from the neighbouring stables, visit ancient caves with paleolithic paintings, swim in one of several pretty rivers, go on a birdwatching trip, or take a tour of one of several sherry bodegas in Jerez. Cortes de la Frontera, a typical Andalucian “white village”, is a twenty minute walk or five minute drive away. Nearby, on the road to Ronda, are the Cueva de la Pileta, and the Cueva del Gato. We are half an hour from Ronda, one of the oldest towns in Spain. Gaucín, one of Andalucía's most picturesque white villages, is just across the valley. On a clear day you can see the Pillars of Hercules and the Atlas Mountains beyond. Jerez is an hour and a half's drive away. Tarifa, Europe's kitesurfing capital, is two hours' drive away. |

Getting there & away/local amenities |
|
| |
Getting There:
| We are an hour and a half by car from Jerez airport (Ryanair), and a two hour drive from Gibraltar airport (Monarch and British Airways), Sevilla airport (Ryanair), and Málaga airport (Monarch, Easyjet, Aer Lingus and others). The drive from Jerez is particularly pretty. If you are coming your Hoopoe holiday in a yurt by public transport the easiest airport to arrive at is Gibraltar. Walk out of the airport and across the border (a couple of hundred metres), then hop into a taxi to San Roque (10 to 15 minutes) and then onto the train to Cortes de la Frontera (50 minutes) where we can pick you up. |

Interior Details |
Our yurts are individually decorated and extremely spacious and comfortable. Choose between five very different styles of yurt. The Mongolian yurt is in a quiet secluded clearing and is hand painted. The Afghani yurt is more romantic with bent willow poles and a deep red ceiling. The Jaipur yurt is made of coppiced chestnut and is light and airy. The Safari yurt has a lovely view of the meadow. The Maimani yurt, named after its large Afghan kelim from the village of Maimani, is also made of coppiced chestnut, and is larger. The yurts are all set up as double rooms with comfy beds, and pieces of traditional Mongolian furniture and exotic textiles. The camp runs on solar power and the yurts have overhead and bedside lights as well as sockets for charging mobile phones and laptops. They all have private bathrooms with hot showers and ecological loos.

Exterior Details |
Our pergola overlooking the pool and the mountains beyond is a perfect place to watch the sun go down in the evenings. Lounge with a cocktail, play backgammon or smoke a hookah in the Turkish style seating areas, decorated with antique kilims. Once a week we hold a "film night" under the stars. Each yurt has an acre of private meadow with seating area, or you might prefer a hammock in the shade of the giant cork trees. Birdwatchers and botanists alike will find plenty to fuel their passion. In spring the meadows are carpeted with a huge variety of wild flowers. The mixture of open meadow and forest provides the perfect habitat for dozens of species of birds, and during the migratory months makes it an ideal stopover for many more. If you are lucky you will see a hoopoe! A holiday in a yurt gives you an incredible opportunity to get back to nature!

Further Details |
Join us four nights a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday) for a three course dinner with plenty of wine, under our pergola lit by Chinese lanterns. All food is from our kitchen garden or locally produced, and flavoured with herbs from the garden. Breakfast includes muesli, cereal, "pan tomate", eggs, fresh fruit salad, honey from local hives and homemade jams and marmalade. We offer sandwiches, paninis, meat and cheese platters and salads during the day, and hot tapas on non dinner nights. We have a fully stocked bar which is open until 11pm (11.30pm on dinner nights). We can also do pack lunches for excursions. Book in for a full body massage, a reflexology session or some invigorating yoga, or simply relax on a sunbed beside the pool.

What visitors have said about The Hoopoe Yurt Hotel |

Dear Henry and Ed, Right from the start, with your warm and enthusiastic response to our request to get married here right through to giving us the most beautiful wedding day imaginable, we're so provileged that you've embraced every suggestion and idea and made it happen - apparently seamlessly. We can't thank you enough, from the bottom of our hearts.
David & Pippa, UK, Sep 2009

Wow! What can we say? Apart from a MASSIVE thank you! We love, love, love this place. We are already planning our next visit. Great place, great food and great new friends.

This beautiful romantic hotel has had the most profound effect on us. We will erect a yurt ourselves when we return home. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!

A great place to start our marriage, and recharge our weary souls. Never been so chilled, from the eagles soaring on the thermals, to the otter playing in the river, shooting stars in the moonlight, just too many memories, thanks!

We loved... travelling with ease from home to Andalucia and seeing your magical little yurt camp glowing with candles and lanterns like a fairytale place... we loved our beautiful yurt and gazing at the shadows of the leaves on the roof... we loved always feeling welcome... we loved our lovingly prepared breakfasts in their beautiful bowls... we loved all the beautiful touches around the place - the bathroom sink, the rugs, the plants, the books, the hammock... we loved sitting on the loo and watching the full moon rise... we loved the incredibly delicious suppers and the sociable chilled out setting and hosts... we loved our morning delivery of new books to read and be inspired by... we loved sharing conversations with you about all kinds... we loved being given so much space to hang out in... we loved being able to do exactly as we pleased... we loved bowls of olives appearing as if by magic... we loved your pool, your home, your thoughtfulness, your land, hearing your dreams and plans...
