  General Info
At Molino Del Carmen, guests are accommodated with the exquisite hospitality that has long been the custom in this part of Spain. Six chic self-catering apartments, most with uninterrupted views down to the Mediterranean Sea, Gibraltar and the Rif mountains of North Africa, offer cool, classic surroundings. Tastefully finished to reflect the Moorish roots of the region, all rooms are designed to afford the Mill's guests privacy, comfort, and a haven of tranquillity in this authentic Spanish town. Until 1967, Molino Del Carmen was a fully operational Olive Oil Mill - and had been for more than 100 years. Originally the mill employed mules to provide its power, but after the civil war in 1939, the mill was upgraded to electricity and the mules happily retired... Facilities include a Library fitted in the Moorish tradition for avid readers to curl up comfortably with a book, and a laundry for the use of guests.

What visitors have said about Molino del Carmen

I spent 4 nights at the Molino del Carmen from October 2 - 6. Pip is a wonderful hostess and made me feel so welcome. Her welcome log book had all the information and suggestions you could hope for, as well as a handy village map. My studio was charming, spotless and had plush towels and high quality sheets. Evenings were a little cool but days were hot and I was right by the pool for a refreshing dip. I walked up to the historic castle twice and paid a respectful visit to the local cemetary. The area is densely forested and great for birdwatching and wildlife. The village is small, safe and friendly and has everything you really need. I loved the little supermarket up the road and it's great bodega, yummy tapas at Paco Pepe's and El Puente, as well as fun and drinks at Casa Antonia. I left my windows open to hear the sounds of the village, children playing, a distant rooster, goat or church bells. This is a perfect, getting away from it all kind of place. The views from Gaucin are breathtakiing. Should you decide to leave the village, you are only a short drive away from many great places in the region. I wish that I could have stayed longer!

The Molino is exceptional. We saw the website in January and booked - not that excitedly but were doing a tour of Andalucia and Gaucin was a stop. However, the new owners sent us the link for the new site in June and we were really impressed. We thought that there was no way that it could live up to the pictures/text etc. But serendipity - it did! From walking in the old wooden front door and seeing the amazing view, to sleeping in a luxurious en-suite bedroom with sparkling clean sheets on our first night, we knew that this would be a special place. We spent a blissful week seeing the sights of Andalucia with our closest friends and sharing candlelight diners on the delightful terrace of our 'Smuggler's Suite' apartment. One highlight was spending a long and laughter filled evening in the village square, meeting up with locals and like-minded travellers, eating tapas and enjoying the local wine - even though we live on the coast in Enlgand, I cannot remember the last time I sat out without a cardie on a summer's eve (or stayed up so late!). Oh, and of course there are great golf corses near by, which we took great advantage of. We have already booked our summer holiday for next year here - we were planning on Goa!!!

I loved the boutique style suites, full of Andalucian character and extremely comfortable. This place is authentic spain. The pool and views are perfect for totally chiling and relaxing - I could have stayed in the complex for the entire weekend but as it happened there were some lovely walks to be had from the door and some great beaches and restaurants only a short drive away. Will definitely go back.

I stayed at the Molino with a group of friends over the recent May bank holiday. The town of Gaucin and the Molino with its charming pool and terraces hang high above the coastal plain. Views of the Med, Gibraltar and even North Africa's twinkling lights on a clear night abound. The apartments and rooms have been delightfully restored, each with a slightly different Moorish twist. I stayed in the serene calm of the blue and white-dressed Don Jose's - it comes highly recommended.
