La Casa del Arriero is a romantic and secluded cottage, set in magnificent walking country. Once the old muleteer´s house where he and his wife raised their 10 children, the cottage still retains much of its original charm and character. Upstairs is a huge double bedroom which leads onto a sun terrace with 180 degree views of the village and woods and valley below. |

General Info |

Downstairs is an open plan kitchen/ dining room with a washing machine and a good sized fridge. This leads into a very comfortable sitting room with 2 sofas, lots of books and games, and a wood burner for those chilly winter evenings. Beyond the living room there is a downstairs bedroom for children (used to be the mule stable!) and beyond that a bathroom (used to be the pig shed!) with a shower. You can also enjoy secluded " al fresco" dining in the plant-filled back patio.
Upstairs is a huge and beautiful bedroom with a big double bed where you can lie in the mornings with the sun streaming through the French windows and look out over the church spire and terracota rooftops. There is a large en-suite bathroom with a tub, and leading off the bedroom is a fabulous sun terrace with sweeping views up and down the valley. |

Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation |
|
| |
We lived in the Cortes valley for 12 years and did a lot of traveling around Andalucia during this time, so we can honestly say we never found another area with more dramatic or varied scenery as what you find around Cortes. Every valley is so different from the next and within an hour´s drive of the village you see landscapes reminiscent of Africa, the Middle East, Scotland and South America. Sounds crazy but really has to be seen to be believed. You are surrounded by protected land so there is no agriculture or development, and the Cortes valley is all just woodland and pasture.
The village is on the border of two huge nature parks so the hiking is sublime. There are numerous excellent restaurants in the area (all written up in the cottage notes) as well as some
really interesting vineyards that have opened around Ronda.

Ours is not an extravagant property and for that reason we have kept the technology to a minimum. There is internet access in the village, but no TV as we feel part of being on holiday is disconnecting and making time for reading good books.

Exterior Details |
The back patio is ideal for the hot summer months as it stays in the shade for most of the day. It also has a nicely tucked away feeling. The sun terrace upstairs has a parasol and sun loungers (of course) and also a small table with a couple of chairs where you can enjoy breakfast/ sun downers/ card games etc.......Although there is no pool at the cottage there are 3 huge and lovely pools within a 10 minute radius, as well as some sensational spots for fresh-water "wild" swimming. From our cottage in Cortes you have access to no less than 4 different lakes and rivers within a 45 minute drive of the village. More information on these on request.

Further Details |
We are real foodies and as a result we like to ensure that our clients have the best "gastro" experience that the highlands of Ronda can offer. Before you depart we send you a beautiful folder of information packed with top tips on how to eat like Kings (and Queens!) during your stay. We tell you what produce is in season at which time of the year, best meat cuts to buy, which fish is farmed, food you can pick from the wild, what to order from the bar and how etc etc. In the cottage you will find an extensive list of best local eateries, all tried and tested by ourselves of course, as well as our favourite restaurants in Ronda.
In the folder we also include our own suggestions and guidelines on buying wines, and the good news on that front is that Ronda is rapidly re-emerging as another interesting wine-producing region of Spain. There are now around 20 vineyards that can be visited in the Ronda area, more information on our recommendations on this on request.

What visitors have said about La Casa del Arriero |
| |

- The cottage is a delight - beautifully simple, tastefully authentic and soporifically comfortable....The absence of tourist trappings in the village made us feel "local" in no time at all.

A beautiful place, full of magic, generous and kind people. A wonderful setting for walking and enjoying nature. A fantastic discovery

We loved it here! The welcoming touches, sunbathing on the terrace on December 22nd, sitting by the fire in the evenings - checking out the fine library you have provided - oh, if only we have more time!
Ron & Barbara
|
We´ve had a truly wonderful and relaxing time here. What a lovely part of the world! We thoroughly recommend breakfast on the sun terrace in the morning with the sun coming over the hill, and cosy evenings by the roaring log fire.
Val & Dave

Tiger and Mel, thank you for all your love and care which we see and feel in everything in the house. Knowing a little bit about the owners makes us feel even more welcome and at home

You have a wonderful cottage here with properly awesome views across the roof-tops and church spire. One evening it was truly magical as the moon rose steadily over the horizon, with the bats and swallows diving above and below.

The view from the roof is breathtakingly awesome and walking round the village at night is good as everyone says

We had a lovely stay here as part of our honeymoon. Thank you for all the little details - the candles, cava, bread, fruit etc

An old man gave us cherries from his pocket, just in return for a smile..... We´re going home knowing the difference between the swallow and the alpine swift, and touched by all the gentle people we´ve met along the way.
Emma & Sid
|
Lovely to feel so much part of the town, everyday sounds, but peaceful and secluded in the house. Sat out at night under the jasmine to watch the full moon.
