  General Info
Finca Buenvino is set in the heart of the Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche nature park. The house perches on a hilltop and looks out over the green and blue hills, densely planted with cork, olive and sweet chestnuts. The estate has some 120 acres of woodland and orchards, and is great in summer for cool early morning walks. Usually there are organic tomatoes, aubergines, peppers and courgettes a'plenty in the garden at the bottom of the valley, just help yourself! There are trails between all the small villages, for those who are keen walkers, but for those who are not actively inclined, there are plenty of shady corners for reading.

Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation
The Aracena mountains are unique in Andalucia in being heavily forested. At 2000 feet altitude, summer nights are cool, and days are hot. Small white villages cling to the mountainsides or nestle in valleys, and a network of mule trails which link them together are perfect for walking. Aracena is only 8Kms away with its nightlife, restaurants and bars. Most summer weekends there is a fiesta in one or other of the twelve neighbouring villages. The Portuguese border is 60km away. Mérida, with the national museum of Roman art, and its night time open air ballet and theatre seasons is 90 minutes north of here.

Further Details There are three self catering cottages dotted around the estate if you are looking for somewhere smaller. Cottages do not share main house facilities unless the tenants are part of the same group as those staying in main house. The main house is run as a B&B outside of the summer months. We run several cookery courses per year, for small groups of 4 - 8 persons (not available in summer months). It’s a fun way to spend time with friends, and learn about Andalucian and Catalan dishes, try out some local restaurants, and visit a sherry bodega. The finca lies at the heart of the Jabugo D.O. area which produces the finest Iberian acorn-fed ham, and we will visit the most famous producer of all, Sanchez Romero Carvajal, and learn from Juan Mateos Arizón about this delicacy and its production. We can organise riding, canoeing, climbing, mountain biking, and hiking through third parties, but please give us plenty of notice. It is useful to speak Spanish as most of our activities organisers have a limited knowledge of English. Botanical and nature walks are also possible with an English speaking guide. The oldest (1917) and strangest golf course in spain is to be found at Rio Tinto mines, 30 minutes away. You play off perfect greens, but need a doormat for the fairway which is made of rolled rubble. The clubhouse is a small wooden hut, and there are 9 holes.

What visitors have said about Finca Buenvino

Last Sunday was my last day in the most idyllic place I can think of in Europe. We had been staying for three weeks in a beautiful rented house in Andalucia, north west of Seville, in the Sierras of Aracena, entirely surrounded by cork and sweet-chestnut forests, and looking across on all sides to mountains in the blue distance. It is as near perfection as a holiday house can get. There is room to have lots of guests, and there is room for them to escape from each other and from us. The light is very clear, the stars very bright, the days hot and the nights cool. Although the house appears to be in the depths of the country, there is an old-fashioned little town conveniently close, with all the picturesque glamour of backwardness, and Seville is only an hour away...I was extremely sad to leave.
Minette Marrin,  Spectator Diary Sept 4th 1999

In the morning, the view across the hills, thickly wooded with sweet chestnut and cork oak, was spectacular. Here and there are olive groves, walnut trees and orchards of plums, peaches and figs. Wild rocky escarpments are covered in cistus and tree heathers. Stone-walled mule tracks meander from village to hamlet, perfect for walking or riding.

Loved the house, loved the pool and of course loved the dogs!!
Katie Corner (12),  UK,  Jul 2006

Thank you for sharing your magical place with us, with never-ending swimming pool, table tennis tournaments, and beautiful music, not to say amazing trees and flowers, fascinating villages and awesome landscapes, natural nd man-made!....and goats that, yes, really were roosting in the trees - we were enchanted.
The Browns,  Jarrow, UK,  Sep 2009

Have had a brilliant time - Beautiful house in a beautiful setting. Playing table tennis and playing the piano has been great fun and special. Aracena Linares and Campofrio have all provided great experiences, and we've met friendly, wonderful people. The bullfight was memorable.
