The Cortijo is five minutes' drive down the main road from the pretty white washed pueblo of Riogordo. This village is typically Andalucian with its narrow winding streets and small tapas bars. There is a selection of small shops including a mini market which sells freshly baked bread every day, a pharmacy, two butchers, a fishmonger, a weekly market, a shop for stamps, a Post Office and two banks. The 24 hour Health Centre is situated in the next village of Colmenar. A drive past the turquoise lake of Vinuela brings you to the town of Velez Malaga (20 minutes). Here there is a new shopping complex ‘El Ingenio’ which is open all day and evening. South of the town there is the water park Aquavelis (open June-September). Horseriding, tennis, board sailing and mountain biking are all available locally near Periana. The weekly markets of the local towns are listed in the Cortijo. |

Take seaside and mountain walks, play golf, sail, try scuba diving, water skiing, cycling, tennis, hang gliding, board sailing. Go horse riding in the countryside or on the beach, go on a jet ski, experience the fun water sports, fishing in the lake or the sea, go-karting, a day in the aqua park and shopping in El Ingenio. Try snorkelling to see amazing coloured fish and go swimming in the coves, enjoy bird watching, the flora and fauna, drawing and painting and yoga. Explore the caves at Nerja or go to a music concert in Malaga. Try visiting the ski resort, skiing and snowboarding in the winter months. There are large and small resorts to visit on the coast, as well as Selwo Aventura animal park, the Crocodile park, Andalucian horse shows and Dolphin World. Visit the Alpujarras and El Chorro areas. Take day trips to Gibralter, Seville and Carmona, Cordoba, Marbella, Granada and the Sierra Nevada, Ronda, Malaga and even Morocco! |

The Cortijo has one king, one super king (zip link if you require two singles) and one single bedroom plus cot. The double and twin are both ensuite with HD TVs. The living area has HDTV, a DVD player, DVDs, a stereo, a piano and board games. There is a dining area for 6 around a large antique table. The kitchenette includes hob, oven, washer/dryer, fridge freezer, microwave, iron and board, toaster, coffee maker and kettle. There is a reading room with a selection of books (and further sleeping area if requested). Our Cortijo is a home and is very comfortable - we hope our personal touch will make you feel relaxed from the very first day of your holiday.

The Cortijo is set within 18,000 sq metres of land and the gardens are stunning and extensive with the smell of orange blossom and jasmine in the air. Enjoy the fresh figs, grapes, pomegranates, oranges and lemons. There is a covered dining terrace, an external eating area under the pergola and a BBQ. There are panoramic mountain and countryside views of olive and almond trees with a WOW factor! The large secluded swimming pool sits naturally in the landscape of the garden and here you will find many different areas to sit and watch the stunning bird life and enjoy the views of the pueblos blancos (white villages). The colours are vibrant, the scenery spectacular. The private pool has built in steps for easy access and is an even depth throughout for your safety.

La Axarquia area is a designated area of outstanding beauty surrounded by National parks, a well kept secret between the Mediterranean and the Sierras. The area is beautiful any time of the year - in Spring the almond blossom makes a pink rash across the countryside, in sizzling Summer there are festivals and beach fun, in the Autumn there are places to explore and in Winter there is the Spanish Christmas, skiing and snow on the mountains. All year the bird life is amazing. As you walk in the countryside, the different smells of wild fennel, lavender and thyme fill the air. The goats come to graze nearby and you can hear their bells. You can visit the Flamingo Lake nearby. Children love the Wolf Park where you can take a picnic or head further afield to the Marine Park and the Zoo. There is an Aqua Park on the way to the coast. Everyone delights in the rock formations at El Torcal - it has spectacular scenery and you can watch the Griffon Vultures flying. Outdoor pursuits (tennis, horse riding, mountain biking etc) are available 3kms away at the local Villa Turistica. You can even go quad biking locally or learn to snorkel.

For conditions of holiday rental (one week upwards), booking forms and any further enquiries please contact the owners and they will respond straight away. Short stays are available off season (minimum two nights) with use of the facilities including a fridge, tea/coffee making, pool and terraces etc. Please enquire for prices. The design of the Cortijo is not suitable sadly for wheelchairs inside but is fine for disabled walkers. Please do ask if there is anything you would like to know about the facilities.

Certainly it is a property restored with love, beautiful touches, for example authentic ceramics from the area. The accommodation was ample for 5, 4 adults and one child, the beds were very comfortable and the rooms large. The cortijo was very clean and the furniture comfortable. The pool was lovely, surrounded by beautiful vegetation and flowers, obviously a great deal of attention was given to the gardens.
Robin was the owner we saw most and was very helpful and kind and it was lovely to have him as a resource for information in the area. We had a wonderful time, swallows were nesting on the veranda during our stay and the geckos were enthralling for our son of 5 years. Truly a wonderfully relaxing holiday, a one off place!

I had to be dragged away each time we needed to visit other places, but of course it was worth it, particularly our day at the Alhambra, Granada. Yet again we thank you for the use of your beautiful home for our holiday. If anything, I think we enjoyed it even more this year.
