  General Info
Casa Doña Angela is a stone’s throw from the church and the village square. Frigiliana is an ancient and historic whitewashed mountain village, pueblo blanco, of exceptional beauty and charm, 60 kms east of Málaga and 6kms into the lower slopes of the Sierra Almijara mountain range behind Nerja. Built into the steep hillside on Moorish foundations, the old cobbled streets, so narrow as to restrict the passage of traffic, are lined with pretty flower-filled windows, alleys and doorways. Frigiliana has won several awards as the prettiest village in Andalucía. It is a working village whose livelihood is based on the local agriculture. Village life is simple yet well catered for with a local baker, fishmonger, butcher, pharmacy, tobacconist, and wine-merchant as well as several small general grocers and craft shops. The local bank has the essential cash machine. Numerous bars and restaurants in the village and the nearby countryside serve good, unpretentious local food.

Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation
Lovely walks are to be made throughout the surrounding countryside, full of interest for birdwatchers, botanists and artists. The pueblos blancos of Frigiliana, Cómpeta, and Torrox form the Ruta de Vinos of Axarquia. Nerja, on the seaside below Frigiliana, is a 10 minute drive downhill. Although touristic, when inside its narrow streets Nerja has charm - and a wide range of restaurants, bars, shops and cafés. The Cuevas de Nerja, and the renowned Balcon de Europa must both be visited. There are several popular beaches at Nerja which are uncrowded, and many delightful smaller beaches down tracks further to the east. Tennis can be played in Nerja and horseriding is available in the valleys around Frigiliana. Golf, sailing, hang-paragliding, scuba diving, mountain biking, petanque are all enjoyed locally. Skiing nearby in Sierra Nevada. The great historical cities of Granada, Córdoba, Málaga, Ronda and Sevilla with culture, colour, style and buzz, are within touring reach.

Further Details According to local records, the site on which the property is built was originally the location of Phoenician baths which, in the 18th century, was converted into a soap factory. The older portions of the existing house date from the 12th century. At the beginning of the 17th century legend has it that this house was at one time occupied by the local priest (circa 1615).The house then became the residence of a local merchant, who abandoned it at the start of the Spanish Civil War. The property then remained abandoned till 1969 when it was purchased by author, playwright and broadcaster Drew Launay. In 1975 the house was purchased by artist Robert Pendered. His wife Maureen, an avid reader, has written a book about travelling in Spain. In 1994 Robert and Maureen Pendered relinquished their much loved second home in Andalucía to the present owner, London-based ex-opera singer and musician Angela Leaf Štrbac.
