Exterior Facilities BBQ / Garden / Parking

Exterior Details Simple but large garden of aproximatly 4 acres. Estate extends to 4,000 acres. Braelangwell 'Shooting' Lodge, was originally part of Balnagown Estates and was let for its accommodation and fishing as early as 1948. For a short time Braelangwell was a hotel and became a private residence in 1962, much to the relief of the local Constabulary who had reputedly tired of the drunken revelry emanating from the Public and Cocktail Bars! The west end of the Lodge was built in 1748 and the rest of the house extended some 100 years later.

Further Details Braelangwell offers some of the best fishing on the River Carron covering 3 miles with 36 named pools. Loch Meall Dheirgidh provides excellent sport, although small these little trout fight like terriers and a blank day is extremely rare. Walked up grouse shooting is also available and stalking on neighbouring estates can be arranged on request during the respective seasons but please make sure you book early in the year to avoid disappointment as shooting and stalking can be fully booked as early as March. Braelangwell is primarily let for its salmon fishing but it also has excellent sea trout fishing, particularly for those who venture out after dinner. The fishing is let for 4 rods unless the water levels are above 0" on the Morail gauge when 5 may fish. Fishing is from the left bank only. The top pools - Frenchmans, Millers, Burnmouth and Charlies are outside the beat rotation we share with Gruinard fishing and can therefore be fished at any time. Otherwise the fishing is divided into two beats (Upper and Lower) that change daily at 1.00 p.m. The main body of the Morail can be fished at any time; in low water it is a good place to teach beginners to cast whilst in higher waters it earns its reputation as the most prolific pool on the river.

What visitors have said about Braelangwell Lodge

We have acquired some additional admirers for everything the Lodge and surroundings have to offer and it was with heavy hearts and heavy heads that we left yesterday. The only sad note is that we now have to wait for another year before returning to your beautiful estate and the wonderful experience it offers.
Ross,  UK,  Jul 2009

Braelangwell plays such an important part in our year now that any opportunity to visit is welcomed with open arms and great cries of glee
Birts,  UK,  Jul 2010

There were a number of us, myself included who, on hearing that next week was unlet were prepared to camp in the garden and move back in if work commitments had allowed!
Motley,  UK,  Aug 2009

I hope I am not being premature in saying that if at all possible we would love to take it again next year and for many years to come.
