There is luxury 5 star self catering accommodation in these 2 cottages: Honeysuckle House has 4 bedrooms (8-12 guests) and Rose Cottage has 2 bedrooms (2-4+ guests). Available separately or they join by a huge conservatory which creates an enormous holiday house in Scotland, sleeping 12 in great comfort, or up to 16-17 with children. Strontian is on the Ardnamurchan peninsular, near the sea on the West Coast of the Highlands of Scotland. There is a giant hot tub under the stars for use all year round - described by the Sunday Times as 'the best sited hot tub in Europe'! The property has a Green Gold Award for environmental efforts & policies and it is very wheelchair friendly (wheel-in showers and easy access throughout downstairs) in category 1 (un-assisted wheelchair access). We are also very child friendly with trampoline, toys, DVD's and animals galore! |

Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation |
|
| |
The holiday house in Scotland is situated in a National Nature Reserve just half a mile to the sea. Day trips are possible from Arisaig to the Small Isles of Rhum, Muck and Eigg and even Iona and Mull. Visit the lighthouse at Ardnamurchan point the most westerly point on the British mainland. Beauriful white sandy beaches of Sanna and the Singing Sands. Ben Nevis and Fort William are only half an hour as is Glen Coe. There is an impressive coastal hide at Garbh Eilean 4 miles away, perfect for wildlife-watching.
The peninsula as a whole is a fascinating place to explore, with remote sandy beaches, lochs to fish and hills to roam. You will never be far from a view of the sea. The winter skiing and summer mountain gondola rides of Nevis Range and Glencoe are just as close. |

Further Details |
We have created buildings which are very well insulated and full of low energy appliances and lights, and toasty under-floor heating downstairs that renders the upstairs radiators redundant for most of the year. We actively encourage and have facilities for, recycling paper, cardboard, glass, tins and cans, recyclable plastics and organic waste via composting. There is a wind turbine situated 300 m from the houses - it can’t be seen or heard but on windy days generates all our electricity. We have a wood boiler and solar panels - and we are burn no oil in the two houses - a long held ambition fulfilled. Outside we try to strike a balance between making our small croft productive while doing what we can to encourage biodiversity. The top field is grazed lightly from midsummer, allowing bluebells and orchids to thrive, while the bracken is kept in check by harvesting for bedding and composting. Elsewhere, native trees and berry bearing hedging have been planted, ponds created and areas set aside and allowed to be overgrown, though these areas can yield wild brambles and raspberries. Lots of bird and bat boxes and feeders are distributed about the place. Much produce is available from the working croft from eggs to meat, fruit, vegetables, jams or even suppers prepared especially for you so you do not have to cook each night.
