Close to the historical town of Tomar, on a protected bank of Castelo de Bode Dam, lies this beautiful property. With only 3 bedrooms and a suite, this is a truly secluded and tranquil retreat, where you can be completely surrounded by the sights, sounds and smells of the Portuguese countryside. Quinta do Troviscal has a picturesque setting by a large lake and there could be nothing more therapeutic than lying on the large pontoon, dipping in and out of the water or rowing out in the little boat. Surrounded by beautiful views and places of historical interest, you will not find a more romantic and relaxing place for a holiday. |

The region of Tomar is very rich and diverse, full of places to visit either by foot or by car. When you arrive Vera, the owner, will hand you a leaflet entitled ‘Va Passear!’ (meaning ‘Get outta here!’), which tells you about the places worth visiting. Tomar itself is a Templar town with a long historical heritage – the World Heritage castle is the main point of interest. The medieval villages of Dornes and Alvaro are also full of fascinating Portuguese history. Just a few miles away, the village of Constancia is a lovely place to walk through. The whole of this region is covered with pine woods and dotted with lakes and river beaches so it is a wonderful place to just soak up the scenery. |

Getting There:
| Coming from Lisboa, take the A1 motorway until the Torres Novas exit. After the toll gate, take the A23 to Castelo Branco and leave when you find the sign indicating Tomar.
You will enter the IC-3 that you must follow until you reach the sign to Barragem de Castelo de Bode.
Drive on for about 5km until you see a sign on your left indicating Casalinho and Alverangel. Follow the road until you find a sign to Turismo Rural pointing to an earth road. Quinta do Troviscal is about 1 km ahead. Our GPS coordinates are: 39º54'75"N08º18'58"W. We are 130km from Lisbon, 190km from Porto, 12km from Tomar and 5km from Castelo de Bode. Remember that GPS can be unreliable in this area, so do not follow it blindly!

The house is made up of 3 bedrooms and a suite, all simply and tastefully furnished with big, comfortable beds, characterful furniture and en-suite bathrooms. The Crescent Room has heating, a hairdryer, a fridge/bar, a television, and enjoys views from a panoramic window. The Bolota Room has the same amenities but it also has a balcony/porch with an exclusive outside area. The D. Maria Room is similarly equipped and laid out. The suite has all the same features, including a lovely private balcony/porch outside area. The house also has a main dining room area where breakfast is served.

Outside the property there is a gorgeous swimming pool, which has magnificent views over the lake and is perfect for both children and adults who don’t feel as comfortable swimming in the depths of the lake. Right by the pool is a lush green lawn protected by two weeping willows, which is the ideal spot for reading, playing, snoozing or having a picnic. There are gardens full of colourful trees and flowers - with areas of both shade and sunshine this is a truly magical and serene setting. The house overlooks an enormous lake, and down by the water there is a large raft which you can sit on, dive off or launch the little boat from. Whether you’re on it, in it or by it, the water is beautifully cool and clear.

Breakfast is served either in the main dining room of the house, or on the room balconies, until 11am. Delicious and fresh, it consists of homemade bread, local cheese, ham, butter, orange cake, yoghurt, fruit, and tea, coffee and orange juice. Vera is always on hand to help with local knowledge or any other requirements you might have. Outside the house there are other restaurants serving delicious meals, for example Chico Elias, which you must try. Constancia offers its own gastronomic delights in the form of the restaurant Remedio d’Alma, set among the garden banks and the narrow streets. The food of this region is delicious!
