Moita Nova has four self catering cottages and a riding stable on site. The owners, one of whom is a riding instructor, have lived at this property on the southwest coast of Portugal since 1990. For those in search of relaxation in unspoilt natural surroundings, close to the sea where you can ride horses through the dunes, then this is an excellent holiday spot. There are six horses: four Arabs, one Lusitana and one pony. Three of the Arabs were born here. The extensive dunes spread out behind the stables, offering long horseback rides. The hacks are suitable for riders of all levels; even total beginners can go out accompanied on one of the calmer horses after four or five lessons. For the smallest horse fans, we can give children’s lessons on longe, and lead rides. Lessons are organised individually, depending on the pupil’s needs, and take place both in the arena and out on rides. |

The village of Cavaleiro is only 5-10 minutes on foot, and has shops, cafes and a restaurant. Larger seaside towns with good beaches, shops and restaurants are Almograve at 8km, Zambujeira at 12km, and Vila Nova de Milfontes at 18 km. About 20km inland lies the attractive and well-kept town of Odemira, administrative centre for this area, and typically Alentejan in character. Due to its location, between Lisbon and the Algarve, Moita Nova offers day-trip access to many places of interest, for example the hills of Monchique, Sagres, the most southwesterly point of Europe, Evora, World heritage site, Silves, once the Moorish capital of the Algarve, Santiago with its Roman ruins, and Beja, regional capital.

The original farmhouse is an Alentejan ‘Monte’, which has been fully restored and contains two of the self catering properties. There’s a newer building, constructed mainly using traditional materials which contains a further two self catering places as well as the owners’ private home. Each self catering property can sleep four and consists of a living / dining room, well equipped kitchen, bathroom and double bedroom. There’s a woodburning stove in each living area to keep you warm during the winter months!

Further Details |
A 5-10 minute walk brings you to the Atlantic cliffs from which the local beach is accessible down a flight of steps. Further north the coast has many small bays which you can climb down to, and for those who enjoy walking the vast sand dunes invite your exploration. Fascinating geological formations, and a rich variety of flora and fauna give this coastline a unique character. As well as the storks who nest on the cliffs, many other species of birds can be observed ; the presence of shy mammals like the fox, badger and otter most often signalled by their tracks in the sand.
To see the wild flowers in all their glory, best to come between April and June.

We ask you to send a deposit of 25% of the total with a minimum of one night`s stay (cheque or bank transfer ). The balance to be paid on arrival or by bank transfer before arrival. Minimum stay 2 nights. Prices include all cleaning costs, bed linen, towels, firewood, use of bicycles and washing machine once a week, gas and electricity. Please let us know your expected time of arrival.

Nicht nur unseren Mädels ist dieser Reiterhof im Südwesten des Alentejo mit seinen liebevollen Menschen und Tieren ans Herz gewachsen; auch wir Eltern haben diese Woche inmitten der frühlingshaften Landschaft des Alentejo sehr genossen. Am Ende durften wir seitens der Kinder Moitanova nur verlassen, weil wir bereits für den nächsten Aufenhalt vorreservierten."

Chère Ute,
nous souhaitons chère Ute te remercier pour les cours d'équitations. Nos filles n'avaient jamais appris auparavant autant de choses sur l'équitation et les chevaux et eu autant de plaisir. Les promenades dans les dunes resteront bien gravées dans leurs mémoires. Encore un grand merci à Julia qui s'est si bien occupée de notre benjamine.
Toute notre famille est bien décidée à renouveler ce séjour au Portugal.
