  General Info
The Somoya is moored in the city’s famous Eastern Docklands, which is known for its ‘Super Dutch’ architecture, wide open harbours and stunning sunsets. The Saloon, which was originally a social cabin for 1st class passengers, is situated upstairs in the steering hut of the ship and is completely self-sufficient. It is light and crisply designed and all around there are spectacular views of the harbour, whether you’re sunning yourself on the deck or sipping wine in a hammock. This really is a fantastic way to see Amsterdam, peaceful and beautiful yet just moments from the buzz of the city.

Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation
The mooring of the Somoya is on the Borneokade, a safe haven of tranquillity just a stone’s throw from the hustle and bustle of the city. Together with many classic Dutch barges and quirky ships, the Somoya faces the historical Eastern Entrepot warehouses. Further along the quay is a large floating jetty which is used as a city-beach for swimmers and sun worshippers….although you don’t necessarily have to leave the ship for any of those activities. The ship is ideally located – close to the infamous historical city centre as well as the cultural hotchpotch of Eastern Amsterdam with its colourful markets and exotic food. The docklands themselves offer a variety of good restaurants, hip bars and cool cafes with great views, as well as shops and supermarkets within walking distance. A short bike ride away is our Gooyen windmill, complete with real dutch brewery, renowned for its excellent IJ bier.

  Getting there & away/local amenities
Getting There: Take a train from Schiphol airport to Amsterdam Central Station – much easier & cheaper than taxi, and often quicker too - trains leave approximately every 15 minutes and take 15-20 minutes. You can then get to the Somoya by boat pick-up, taxi or tram. Taxis cost about 10-15 euros. If you want to travel in style we can pick you up in a sloop and you can take the scenic route! Once here, it is very easy to get around, either by trams, buses or the Canalhopper in summer months. If you’re going to use a lot of public transport we recommend you buy an ‘I Amsterdam card’ but of course the best and cheapest way to see the city is by bicycle!
  Nearest airports: Schiphol 25 minutes

What visitors have said about Somoya's Saloon

What a wonderful time we had on board your houseboat in Amsterdam! The setting, right on the river, gave us a feeling of being away from it all whilst actually being right in the middle of everything! All transport so close and quaint little shops too! As an artist I really appreciated the clean lines, the light and modern decor of the boat. It was restful and everything you needed was there. As experienced exchangers we found the time spent (although short) a unique experience and gave us quite a different view on Amsterdam. It really is a tardis, however!! Step inside and there is so much more room than anticipated! The deck afforded a wonderful view down the river and watching the night lights was awesome! Thank you so much for your generosity and we hope to see you in Australia before too long. Cheers. Yvonne

In a need of relaxation and rest in my own city, I had a great stay at the Somoya. Enjoying the waterfront, the interior of the Saloon, the hospitality of the owners, the feel of the eastern docklands. Whether it is a romantic weekend, relaxation or business you’re after. What a great place to enjoy your stay in Amsterdam. I’ll be back.

I had a wonderful stay on the boat!! It is absolutely beautiful! Thank you so much for having me. I will advise others whom I know that if they plan a trip to Amsterdam to consider the Somoya B&B as a place to stay. I found no issues upon which to find fault. I felt that all my needs were satisfied nicely. Thanks for that excellent map that you provided for us. Have a wonderful holiday season.

Dear Somoya's Saloon & fellow guests, Fabulous! We love this place. The attention to detail is wonderful. If you spend a long time walking in the town and have hot feet, we recommend taking off your shoes and dancing on the terrace. The cool steel is therapeutic underfoot! We had a perfect albeit too short, break in a perfect place. Many, many thanks, we will be back to stay for longer. Mike & Leila PS loved the cats!

Thank you so much for everything! We had such an amazing experience in your home & in Amsterdam. The trip would not have been the same if not for you. Thank you for an unforgettable bike ride through the city. We would say that was one of the highlights of our trip to Europe. Heather, Courtney & Joe

August 25th to 29th 2011. Four nights on the Somoya gently rocked to sleep even on the stormiest of nights. And ace days in the cabin flooded with daylight - a very comfortable and elegant ambience. If only the weather in late August had been better we would have sat sipping an evening white wine on the deck and watched the world go by. We were here to celebrate our daughter's marriage - she lives more or less opposite on Borneokade, so it was an ideal spot for us. Thanks to Somoya's generosity we used the cabin as a rehearsal space for the impromptu band - two guitars and flute - provided by our grandchildren which made up the musical entertainment for the wedding. Thank you very much Angie for such an enjoyable visit- we will come again and tell all our friends to book up too if they want a very cool place to stay in Amsterdam.
