If you’re looking for a stylish and peaceful hideaway to soothe the senses then Relais Il Cantico Della Natura is the place for you. The accommodation is split into rooms, suites and apartments, all of which are characterised by a month of the year. Each has been thoughtfully furnished in a classic country style with original furniture and all the important little touches. Outside the rooms, the relais is a wonderful place which is really designed to calm and revive you, from the amazing wellbeing centre to the gorgeous swimming pool. Not to mention the delicious food! If you can bear to tear yourself away, all the delights of Umbria and Tuscany are on your doorstep. This is a place to get back in touch with nature, yourself and your loved ones. |

The Cantico della Natura is located in an ideal place in Umbria, a few kilometres from the border with Tuscany, in the heart of extraordinary natural beauty. Perugia is just 18km away, Assisi is 35km, Gubbio 40km, Montalcino and Montepulciano are 40km, and Siena is 75km. Umbria is rich with history, art and nature of an incomparable beauty. Its mystical atmosphere combined with the special colour of its sky, make it a land of tremendous charm and harmony. To this add a cuisine of strong flavours and you get a region which is ideal for art lovers and lovers of nature and sport, as well as those of tradition and good cooking. The park of Lago Trasimeno with its deep blue waters and magical sunsets preserves the atmosphere of another era in its village. The lake is a paradise for lovers of nature, sport and complete relaxation. The little town of Montesperello nearby was an Etruscan site and then a Roman settlement, and is dominated today by the old castle of medieval origins. |

| The hotel is near Magione, in the village of Montesperello. Daily transport by train and bus link the airports of Rome and Perugia. The airport of Perugia (with daily flights for Milan, Rome, Bruxelles, London, Barcellona and some additional flights in summer) is about 30km from the Cantico della Natura which can be reached by taxi in around 20 minutes, booking the taxi in advance with radio taxi in Perugia. |

The two apartments are ideal for families in search of space, comfort and privacy. Located in front of the swimming pool with a splendid panorama of Lake Trasimeno, one sleeps 2 and the other sleeps 6. The 7 rooms and the 2 junior suites are restored and furnished with original furniture from the end of the 1800s and have been inspired by the seasons. In each you will find welcoming information and a gift of fruit from the owners’ farming business, a selection of books and all the technology you could need from telephone and satellite TV to wireless internet access. They also have kettles and a selection of teas and infusions, olive oil scented bath products and even shoe cleaning kits. The beds are soft, the wooden floors are covered in Persian rugs and the bathrooms are all unique in shape and colour. The suite is luxurious and romantic, from the four poster bed to the view of Lake Trasimeno from the window, idyllic for watching the sunset. The space is large but intimate.

Outside the bedrooms the relais is just as delightful and the comfort and good health of the guests is at the forefront of everything the hotel does. First you have the swimming pool, 125 square metres, available 24 hours a day, and will an incredible view of the lake. The perfect spot for an aperitif! Then there’s the underground wellbeing centre, covered in natural wood and stone and equipped with a sauna, a Turkish bath, a hydro massage bath, a fitness space, a massage room and a lovely little rest area. The stone annex in the olive grove houses the relaxation room, another space to chill out in, and the hotel also has a games park which children will adore. Even the restaurant, serving traditional Umbrian cuisine, is a beautiful room just made for candlelit dinners. Whether you’re walking in the forest, drinking from the old fountain or following the meditation course you can’t but feel stress-free.

The main farmhouse has remained intact for centuries and is entirely made of ancient local stones, the result of the work of patient stonecutters. Subdivided in two blocks, that go back to two distinct periods, there are two agricultural annexes. The rooms are all named after the months of the year and a journey through the rooms is like a journey through the seasons. Thanks to the countryside and the energy that emanates from it, Cantico della Natura is the ideal place for meditation and internal research. There is a meditation course around the grounds which includes quotes from celebrated authors written on wood (35 plaques) and nature areas around the old fountain, the games park, the olive grove and the little pine forest, all with the view of Lake Trasimeno in the background. The hotel even has event and meeting space. What a place to learn in!

Guests receive a complimentary bottle of wine on arrival. Children under 5 are completely free and it is €30 for an additional bed. Check in is from 15:00 and check out is 13:00 although this can be extended. At weekends there is a minimum stay of 2 nights and in July and August the minimum stay is 3 nights. Use of the wellness centre is €30 per person for 1.5 hours. Bookings and payments can be made by credit card, bank wire or postal order. Rates include cleaning. Rates for rooms include breakfast, rates for apartments do not.

Il Cantico della Natura is an amazing place. It sits on a hill to the east of Lake Trasimeno, with a stunning view out over a valley to the lake. The old stone farmhouse dates back hundreds of years. It has been restored and updated beautifully. All of the rooms are different. Our room was large and comfortable. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. The staff is pleasant and responsive.
We had several dinners and several breakfasts at Il Cantico, and the food was outstanding. All of the ingredients used in their kitchen are from Umbria, as are the wines. There were several choices each night for each course of the meal. When we wanted to try a little bit of each, no problem, they accomodated us. The atmosphere in the dining room is very pleasant and the service was attentive.
When we were at Il Cantico, I think we were the only English speaking guests. It appeared that all of the other guests were Italian. This makes Il Cantico a little different from some of the other places we've stayed in Italy.
It's a little complicated to get to Il Cantico. It's not in a town, and it's not near anything else. You have to drive out into the countryside, then up into the hills, then take a one-lane dirt road through the woods. Don't let that discourage you. Get a little off the beaten track and find your way to Il Cantico. It's definitely worth the effort.
