Further Details L'Ariete is run by an Austrian -Italian couple. Martina has studied Arts in Perugia and Vienna; Andreas is a former manager for environmental NGOs and an ecologist. Our main idea was to create a place that we would also like to visit. L'Ariete is a mirror image of our personality, our life and our convictions. We love Italy and its lifestyle, but have lived in different places - from Rome to Vienna to Venezuela - and travelled extensively - therefore the traditionally restored house is decorated not only with Italian furniture, but pieces from all over the world, plus those gems we find in old barns and on fleamarkets and bring into shape. We decided to get away from big city life and rush hours, but haven´t opted out from modern life - WLAN, iPods and iPads are integral parts of L'Ariete. We love Italian food, and run a private restaurant exclusively for our guests; we expect a high level of quality from the products - organic and animal friendly, things that are difficult to find in Italy - so we try hard to build up our network of trusted farmers. We also plant vegetables and fruits ourselves. We love the Umbrian countryside and on our property we aim to offer a home to wildlife as well with nesting boxes for songbirds, bats and bumble-bees. And last but not least, we are interested in all the details of Italian everyday life - and the peculiarities as well - and we like to share our experiences with our guests. The best olive oil, the truffle hunt, the romantic spot for a picnic, the hidden renaissance fresco in the small church at the end of the road are some of our best kept secrets.

What visitors have said about L'Ariete

Skiing in Italy, great idea! But what to do if you break your leg second day on the slope???!!! Thank god my partner is more a pleasure-seeker than a sportsman so we changed our plans....as we are extremely flexible....and headed south, in the direction of Rome. It may not be the typical time to visit central Italy, but we definitely did not regret it!! Buying truffles and fresh olive oil directly from producers, eating the best pizza in the country, best ice cream.....exactly as it says in the famous book: eat, pray, love. L'Ariete was a perfect starting point for this; we were lucky enough to be there during a local fiesta in the small town Montone, oilmills around the corner, beautiful places like Arezzo and Assisi very close, Florence a nice day trip – and the best – no queues in museums, churches. I loved that the L'Ariete landlord let me make a fire in their wonderful restaurant...well in their fireplace, to be honest.. I turned into a pyromaniac and burned all his wood!!!! So guys, if you are looking for the most exciting and friendly place to stay in Umbria, come to see Martina and Andy, stay with them couple of days and say 'hi' from me.
Irma,  Vienna,  Dec 2010

Lariete is a beautiful countryhouse in a tranquil corner of Italy, yet within easy reach of some of the Renaissance places we wanted to visit such as Urbino in The Marche, Arezzo in Tuscany or the lesser known Umbrian cities Perugia, Gubio or Orvieto. The property has an extra-ordinary position - overlooking the valley, with the medieval village Montone looking down on you. Comunication prior to our arrival with the Austrian owners was very professional, both speak fluent English and a couple of other languages as well.. and they remained just as helpful and welcoming all week long - a rare level of hospitality we seldomly experienced. We had an apartment booked with own kitchen - very well equipped, and we prepared some lovely meals; however, we also had dinner twice in the small restaurant, where Martina, the Austrian manager with Italian roots, prepares fixed 3 course meals each evening for 25€ including a bottel of local wine. She uses mainly organic products from regional farmers, she has a huge garden with fresh herbs and vegetables, and the food was extra-ordinary good - no gourmet kitchen, but fresh, local dishes such as the wild asparagus which arrived handpicked by the owners on out plates - delicious! So, we really enjoyed our stay at Lariete, and will definitely come back in summer to spend a couple of days at the pool, which is huge and has a wonderful position with views of the village above. At the moment it´s still an insiders tipp, 2011 is their first season, so we recommend to go there soon before they become really popular. All the best to you, Martina and Andreas, and see you in August!

My husband and I visited L'Ariete in Umbria for a 4 nights last week and had a wonderful time! The room was spotless and filled with rustic Italian charm and love. Andreas (our host) was very friendly and funny and welcomed us with a beautiful dish of antipasti right in our room! Andreas and his wife Martina were more than willing to help with any questions we had about the area and we feel truly grateful for their outstanding service. The B&B itself is a magnificently preserved historical building and its grounds are very well taken care of and filled with lush gardens of lavender. There is also a perfect pool were we spent a lot time in! And the views...the views!!!!! They are breathtaking! The B&B also has a small restaurant where Andreas hosts and Martina cooks. A must try!!!! Martina cooks up impressive local dishes with much care and Andreas lovingly serves them. The restaurant has an amazing patio with views that will take your breath away! Together, Martina and Andreas have created the B&B of dreams: Warm atmosphere, tasteful decor and delicious food!
