The tower dates back to medieval times when it was used as a lookout for approaching enemies. In 1894 the building was expanded to include a stone farmhouse. This work was done by the great-grandfather of the current owner. The ceiling and floors are beautifully finished with terracotta tiles, and the ceilings have exposed wooden beams. The original wooden doors have all been refinished with antique hardware. Monterchi itself is a hive of activity – there are music concerts throughout July and August in the gardens of the Madonna del Parto museum. Within an hour’s drive you can be shopping for all Italy’s designer labels. You can go food and wine tasting, enjoy art and culture – you name it, you’ll find it! |

Monterchi is brilliantly placed for exploring both Tuscany and Umbria. An easy drive to Prada and other famous outlets, as well as the newly opened outlet village in Tuscany. Nearby Arezzo offers easy connections to Florence, Rome, Siena, Pisa, Cortona. Other nearby places of interest include Assisi, Perugia, Gubbio, San Gimignano, Sansepolcro, Citta di Castello, Urbino. There is always somewhere new to visit, and Monterchi itself offers a great deal of history and famous art. Monterchi has a great feel of the real Italy, and the local villagers go out of their way to make you welcome. For art lovers, Monterchi is home to the famous 'Madonna del Parto' by Piero della Francesca. Monterchi has a great choice of reasonably priced restaurants. |

| There are 8 airports within a three hour drive of this villa in Tuscany, the closest of which are Perugia (one hour), Bologna Forli (1.5 hours) and Florence (1.5 hours). The house is 30 minutes from main A1 motorway and 20 minutes from the convenient E45 dual carriageway. Il Mulino is just 30 minutes from Arezzo station, with a direct line north to Florence, Bologna and Milan, and south to Rome. Taking the train is very easy and takes all the trouble out of parking at your destination. |

The front door opens into the entranceway. To the right is a spacious living / dining room dominated by the original antique fireplace. To the left of the entrance hall is the kitchen, and beyond this an additional seating area. Doors in the kitchen open out to a stone-paved terrace for 'al fresco' dining. A wooden staircase leads to the upper floor where there are 4 bedrooms. Each of these has a private en-suite bathroom with shower, sink, toilet and bidet. The tower is accessed by a separate entrance of terrace. At ground level there is a small seating area and the bathroom (shower, sink, toilet). A wooden staircase leads to the upper floor where there is a double bed, and a further wooden staircase takes you up to the roof terrace where you can enjoy the fabulous view of the surrounding countryside.

We have built a magnificent 11.5m x 5.5 m pool surrounded by 700 sq. mtrs of terraces and walkways, flower beds, cypress and olive trees. The pool area has a big gazebo, table, chairs and barbecues, from which to enjoy your al-fresco meal with stunning views across the valley; the mediaeval town of Monterchi and the lush green Tuscan Hills are a backdrop. Pool furniture includes also comfortable sunbeds and sun umbrellas. For the children to enjoy themselves, there is a small football area and volleyball court.

There is a 9 hole course approx 15 minutes from the house, and a serious professional course only 45 minutes away - close to Perugia. The villa is surrounded by stunning countryside, offering beautiful walks around its land and the adjacent woods. Guided walks are also available. Routes range from gentle strolls through to challenging climbs. Walkers have often reported seeing wild boar, deer as well as a whole variety of birds. The woods are also full of porcini mushrooms, chestnuts and truffles (for those that know how to find them). With the famous hills of Tuscany, you can pick a gentle ride down into the village of Monterchi , or a full blooded Mountain Bike ride through the woods. Guided rides are available as a bike hire. Monterchi hosts many organised rides from fun rides for all the family through to international races.

The prices for this villa in Tuscany are based on 6 people sharing. All prices include VAT. Minimum stay is always 7 days in high/peak season and 5 day in low/middle season. Supplements: Groups of up to 7 or 8 € 300,00 / Groups of 9 or 10 € 550,00. Children under 2 years on the date of arrival free of charge. There is a security/ breakage deposit of 500 euro ( cash ) to pay on arrival. Price includes a typical Tuscan welcome pack with first breakfast and basics. Included in rental rate: welcome pack, once weekly maid service, once weekly towel change, once weekly bedding change, hot water, electricity (not for heating), daily pool service, two cots, two bikes, full use of facilities. Additional charges for: phone/internet charges, central heating, extra maid service, babysitting, Italian cooking lessons, professional cook by request, Italian language lessons, guided rides/walks for all levels. Guided tours by request. Traditional meals at 30 euros/person.
