General Info |

Casa Monterchi is a beautiful townhouse with lots of character - wooden ceilings and beams, terracotta floors, stone door surrounds and 19th century frescoed ceilings. The house is in the historic centre on Monterchi, one of Tuscany's most beautiful hilltop villages. Casa Monterchi is yards from the main square (and a fantastic restaurant, bar and enoteca). The house also overlooks the church of San Simeone. There are stacks of guide books and historical books if you fancy finding out more about the area not to mention some great Italian cookbooks if you fancy cooking with some of the lovely fresh, local food from one of the many nearby markets. |

Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation |
|
| |
Monterchi is a fantastic place to stay and savour the atmosphere of a genuine and unspoilt Tuscan hilltop village. It is also ideally situated for Tuscany, Umbria and central Italy. It's on the Piero della Francesca trail. Wonderful villages, towns, bike rides, walks and restaurants abound in this unspoilt and relatively quiet corner of Tuscany. Monterchi's strategic position means that you can easily stetch your wings beyond Tuscany. The village looks onto the next hilltown, which is across the border into Umbria and the E45 superstrada offers easy access to the famous towns of Umbria such as Perugia, Gubbio and Assisi, together with the Adriatic coast to the east and Emilia Romagna and Bologna to the north. Even Rome is an easy day trip by car or better still on the fast train from Arezzo (just over an hour). |

Interior Details |
The house is built on three storeys plus a cellar and attic. It has the advantage due to its height and position at the top of the village of great views and an open aspect. Entering on the ground floor, there is a hallway with the kitchen and rich wooden ceiling. Across the other side of the hall is the second bathroom. Terracotta steps lead to the first floor, with a good-sized living room and dining room, opening onto the balcony, which runs the length of the house. Both of the first floor rooms have beautiful tiled floors and C19th frescoed ceilings. The living room has a sofa bed for extra guests. A further set of wooden steps leads to the second floor, with two double bedrooms with windows facing the church and village, and another bathroom with shower and a wonderful view clear over the rooftops to the countryside below.

The house has a wonderful balcony where you can sit looking onto the church, the Medieval archway and the fields beyond. We like nothing better than sitting on the balcony listening to the sounds of Italian village life!

Further Details |
Monterchi enjoys an excellent central location in northern Italy, perfect for combining Tuscany and Umbria but also within easy day trip reach of the coast and even Rome. Monterchi's position a few miles from Arezzo and near the Umbrian border offers a range of stunning towns, both famous and undiscovered on its doorstep. Within a few miles are Anghiari, Sansepolcro, Citta di Castello, Caprese Michelangelo (Michelengelo's birthplace), La Verna (where St Francis received the stigmata) and other beautiful Renaissance delights, together with the natural parks and forests for which the Valtiberina is famous. Monterchi is perfectly situated to explore all of the main sites of Tuscany such as Florence, Siena, Lucca and Pisa but offers a unique perspective on the real Tuscany. Although tourist sites in the area are plentiful, life continues in this area of Tuscany at a slower pace and is all the better for that. You can mix day trips to the likes of Florence or Siena with walks and trips to the local markets and restaurants and see the real side of Tuscany.
