Unique to this part of Puglia trulli are found everywhere between Ostuni, Ceglie Messapica, Martina Franca and Alberobello. The size of a trullo is measured by the number of cones, each cone representing a room. Our trullo has five cones. Trulli offer coolness from the hot summer sun, due to the double layered structure that makes up the cone, the outer layer being arranged in a dry-stoned spiral arrangement topped by a designed finial and the inner is stone cemented together to give an attractive pointed ceiling. Sometimes Christian symbols are painted outside on the cones to ward off evil spirits. Most trulli have one or two lamies attached to serve as cooking, eating and washing areas and extra sleeping arrangement. Some, like ours, have a stone-built pizza/bread oven with its own chimney. |

Puglia is fabulously blessed with a large number of fine sandy beaches along both the Adriatic and the Ionian coasts, set in coves between rocks and are excellent for swimming, diving and snorkelling.
By car the Adriatic sand coves are 30 to 45 mins away, with its three charming ports of Torre Canne, Vilanova and Savelletri. North of Savelletri is the Greco-Roman town of Egnazia. The Ionian coast with its rugged cliffs and sandy beaches is an hour away, as well as the aquapark at Pulsano. All the beaches are safe (with supervision). If windy the Ionian beaches are sheltered. There are plenty of seaside bars and cafes serving excellent dishes on both coasts. There is a golf course about 30 minutes away near Fasano. Gallipoli and Trani are well worth visiting on a day trip as well as Matera, where 'The Passion of Christ' was filmed. Several local caves are open during the summer months. |

Getting There:
| Bari airport is 70km (39 miles) away and Brindisi is 40km (28 miles), both are served three days a week by Ryanair from London Stansted. Naples airport is 4 hours away and Rome 6 hours. Because of the country location of the trullo and the spread of sandy beaches and places of interest a car is essential. Local buses run from a bus station just over a mile away to all major towns and trains to Martina and Francavilla and beyond. |

Our trullo has five cones with a lamie, a separate bathroom/utility and a studio attached.
The trullo sleeps 5 persons and the studio sleeps 2. The eating and dining area in the lamie is reached through a stone passage. The lamie and studio each have their own kitchen. The studio has a stone pizza oven. There are two bedrooms (both doubles) and a sofa bed in the trullo itself and a third bedroom in the studio with a four poster bed. There is also a travel cot. There’s a shower room in the Lamie as well as a further bathroom with bath (and shower over). There’s a large utility room. The trullo lounge has ample space, as well as TV, DVD, CD player. The studio has a seating and dining area, also with TV and DVD player. Both the trullo and lamie have air con, wood burning stove and open fire. The studio also has a wood burning stove.

The trullo sits in three acres of an olive grove of over 100 trees, plus other fruit and nut trees. There is a collonaded courtyard garden between trullo/lamie and the studio, witha shrubbery to give privacy between the two. There is a large level patio in front of the trullo and smaller one in front of the studio, both south facing. All patio furniture supplied, with 2 outside canopies for al fresco dining. The private pool is 10m x 5m with uniform 1.4m depth, accessed by a 1.5m width pool-length ramp. The trullo has an external built-in barbecue into the wall with its own chimney. There is a badminton facility on main patio. The studio has its own patio overlooking the pool and grounds.

Ceglie Messapica has all the local shops, banks, post office, chemists, a small hospital and a weekly Saturday market. The visitors book will give you information on some excellent restaurants found by previous guests. Ostuni and Martina have larger stores for more upmarket clothes for all ages as well as large weekly markets. A mile away is a good supermarket for your daily needs. Auchan, Carrefour, Alvi and other hypermarkets are all within an hour away. Ceglie Messapica is 2 miles away, with Ostuni, Martina, Cisternino and Alberobello within 15 to 30 minutes away by car. All have their historic centres with restaurants, cafes and bars. Baroque Lecce is best reached by train from Brindisi, as parking is near impossible there.

10% deposit secures booking, plus refundable £100 damage deposit. Balance payable 4 weeks in advance. BACS preferred but cheques accepted. Damage deposit, or balance of, refunded after holiday. 30% discount off studio price if booked with trullo. 10% discount for repeated bookings.
Off season lets subject to negotiation with owner. Changeover day is flexible. Minimum stay is three nights subject to availability but seven nights during peak periods (school holidays). The property is quite suitable for guests who have some mobility difficulties, with accessible and roomy bathroom and a gentle ramp into the pool itself. Disabled persons please check requirements with owner. Towels and linen are provided and changed weekly. Bring own towels for pool and beach use. Full maid service by local English property manager, who could be called out at your cost.

Wonderful holiday in an unusual house and peaceful setting. Excellent restaurants catered to our needs. One restauranteur opened a local cave for us to explore! Helpful locals and friendly farmer made our holiday. Definitely coming back again next year! Feel relaxed and rejuvenated from an unhurried pace of life, good food and wine. So quiet and relaxing. Great place to switch off.
