General Info |
|
| |
Stairs from the front door lead up to a dramatic double-height sitting room on the first floor. Under an ancient stone archway is a well-equipped kitchenette, and above the seating area is a mezzanine with two single beds, reached via a wooden staircase. There is a pretty balcony over the street. Stone stairs (with a cloakroom off them) lead up to the second floor bedroom with romantic four-poster-style netting and en-suite bathroom with washing machine. This bedroom has its own private terrace with garden furniture and sun umbrella. From this terrace a staircase leads to two further roof terraces, also equipped with chairs and tables, which have gorgeous views of Ostuni's lovely ancient centre and the plains full of olive trees and the azure Adriatic beyond. |

Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation |
|
| |
Ostuni is a gorgeous white medieval walled town with kasbah-style alleyways to wander in, lots of bars, excellent restaurants and shops, a huge weekly market and a monthly flea market. In summer the town is especially vibrant, with street theatre and open-air shows, and everything stays open till the early hours as whole families enjoy being out and about.
A short drive away through olive groves and prickly pear cacti is the fascinating trullo town of Alberobello and lovely harbour towns like Monopoli and Trani. There are lots of lovely Adriatic beaches nearby and good trains to the baroque city of Lecce and to Bari with its ancient basilica and harbour as well as its designer shops. Further afield, visit stunning Matera where Mel Gibson filmed The Passion of the Christ, or the lovely historical cities of Otranto and Gallipoli further south. There are good golf courses not far away. Spring and summer are usually warm and pleasant and summer hot and sunny. |

Getting there & away/local amenities |
|

Getting There:
| Ostuni is well served by both Brindisi and Bari airports, 30 minutes' drive and 50 minutes' drive respectively. Ryanair flies from London Stansted to both airports most of the year and BA flies from London Gatwick in summer. Ostuni is also on a direct train route (5 hours) from Rome, or you can fly to Naples and either drive to Ostuni (5 hours) or take a train with one change. We can arrange to send a local taxi to collect you from the airports or train station (50Euros one way from Brindisi, 90Euros from Bari, 10 Euros from Ostuni train station). We can also arrange for local car hire, though for more than a few days it's cheaper to hire from an international company. Both our local taxi driver and our car hire firm hold our keys and can let you in if we are not there. |

Parking can usually be found in nearby streets, but at busy periods we may be able to offer guests garage parking, depending on availability. As the roof terraces are high, we don't really recommend this house for families with toddlers and small children.
