Aside from the self catering cottage, La Granica also has several B&B rooms available. Piedmont is situated in the northwest of Italy it borders France to the west, to the north lies Valle d’Aosta and Switzerland and to the east is Lombardy with the fashion capital of Milan; it also touches a small part of Emilia Romagna, the internationally renowned region of cheeses and hams. To the south is the rocky strip of Liguria that separates South Piedmont from the sea by only 30 kilometres. The mountains, the Alps to the northwest and the Apennines to the south cover a large part of this territory giving Piedmont it’s unique name, ‘the foot hills’, providing breathtaking scenery, great skiing, nature reserves and many historical and cultural sights from castles to hill top villages and abbeys. Of great interest are the Piedmontese hills, from the Monferrato to the Langhe they have become famous throughout the world for ‘enogastronomia'. |

The Monferrato offers a vast array of activities for every type of holiday. Maybe you want a holiday immersed in nature, with or without physical exertion or maybe you want to visit old Italy with all the culture sights and folklore this area has to offer. Alternatively, you may just want to relax amongst the vines by the pool with a good book and sample the tranquillity of the La Granica. La Granica is the ideal base for those who have time available to discovering some of the more renowned places in and around Piedmont. After having explored the Monferrato, there are also the hills of the Langhe and Roero to venture in and centred there is the historic town of Alba, which is well worth a visit, or else spend a day at one of the beautiful Piedmont lakes. Turin, Milan and Genoa are cities with great historical and architectural interest with a number of cultural and social events. |

A car is essential, firstly to travel from the airports and then to explore this rural region. The local village is Fontanile 10 minutes walk from the cascina. The local market town is Nizza Monferrato 5km away. |

At the heart of the Cascina the fully equipped, two-storey apartment /cottage retains much of the original 300 year old structure and has been sympathetically refurbished around original features. Designed for four people, it has two spacious double bedrooms, one includes a large four-poster bed and the other has two single sleigh beds. There is also a bathroom with bath, separate shower cubicle, bidet, sink and WC. The first floor balcony is accessed from the central landing.
On the ground floor there is a sitting room with TV/satellite channels and DVD player, cloakroom. Fully appointed kitchen/diner with built-in oven, gas hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, washing machine, toaster & kettle. Extensive range of cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery provided.

We have a beautiful 12m x 5.5m pool for your use. There are 7 hectares of our own vineyards, woods and meadows surrounding the property of what is still a working farm.

Further Details |
La Granica was originally a grain store for the water mill of the village that used to sit near the house on the river. It was built around the start of the 1700s and is typical of this style of Monferrato dwelling. The grain store has been redeveloped into the main part of the hotel and the original house is now the self-catering cottage, however La Granica remains a working farm sitting in 7 hectares of our own land. The farm manages meadows and woods filled with poplar, acacia, mulberry and fruit trees and of course our own vineyards. We are now happy to say we are well on our way to producing not only high quality grapes but small amounts of good wine which is part of a phased development to produce wines on a small commercial basis. The renovated vineyards are classed under the status of ‘eco friendly’.

Min stay 2 nights in the Cottage. More discounts available for month or longer lets. Check in after 3:00pm, Departure by 10:30am although flexible by prior agreement. Children are welcome. For very small children Cots and High Chairs are available. Smoking is not permitted inside or in the grounds. Sorry, no pets. Deposit: 30% within 10 days of the booking confirmation. Balance: To be paid at least 30 days before arrival. We can accept credit card payments from Mastercard and Visa, or by Bank Transfer.

My wife and I spent a fabulous week with our daughter at 'La Granica'. The cottage is beautifully furnished and set in beautiful surroundings. It was spotlessly clean and provided all the amenities necessary for a great and very comfortable holiday. We particularly enjoyed using the pool everyday (helped by the 80 degree water temperature), it was noticeably well maintained and was complemented by the poolside furniture, a perfect place for relaxing. We were also extremely impressed by the warm welcome we were given by Mark & Karen and their enthusiastic and helpful manner. They were, at all times, very approachable and friendly and offered some great ideas for places to visit and things to do. We have already been recommending 'La Granica' to our friends and family and would not hesitate to recommend 'La Granica' to anyone else seeking a holiday in the Piedmont area. We will definitely be going back!
