One-off feature |
|
| |
Casa Giulia is a large, isolated period farmhouse in the unspoilt countryside of Le Marche. Set in a secluded setting down a long private drive, this is the place to enjoy idyllic scenery in a part of Italy which retains many of the attractions lost in other parts by over-development.
The medieval village of Monteleone di Fermo is 2km away. |

General Info |
|
| |
Le Marche is Italy’s best kept secret, bordered by Tuscany and Umbria but far less dry and more beautiful. Casa Giulia is tucked under a small hilltop town called Monteleone di Fermo, which has a general store and a fantastic pizzeria with one of the best views in Italy. The farmhouse is at the end of a kilometre of rough private track, nestled in fields planted with sunflowers, wheat and olive trees. Across the valley, you look out to two other hilltop towns and the view is straight out of a renaissance painting. |

Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation |
|
| |
Tucked between the Adriatic Sea and the Appennine mountains, Le Marche is a mountainous region of small farms and ancient hilltop villages. Bursting with thriving farms and villages, it may not have the concentration of art treasures found in Tuscany but it also lacks the level of tourism! The landscape here is stunning, with patchwork fields framed by Italy's second highest mountain, part of the Sibillini range. For walkers, the mountain trails are almost empty and you can see all the way across to the sea (sometimes even to Croatia). About 25 miles from the farmhouse there are lovely beaches, and there are also aquamarine lakes neaby, not to mention the spectacular Grotte di Frasassi caves. There is something for everyone here: charming, traditional towns and villages, quiet isolation by a pool, picturesque walks, tennis, a lively beach, amazing food and colourful markets. |

Interior Details |
The farmhouse is built of brick and has been simply restored retaining the original terracotta floors and beamed ceilings. The ground floor was once used for stables but there is now an enormous kitchen, a sitting room, a hallway and a downstairs loo and shower room. The kitchen is well equipped for those who enjoy cooking for large numbers but who eschew gadgets such as the microwave. There is a washing machine but no dishwasher. The house sleeps 16 and upstairs there are 4 double bedrooms and two triples. Two rooms have twin beds and the others have doubles. There is a large home-made bamboo cot in one of the double rooms and there are two shower rooms and one additional loo. Each bedroom has either a chest of drawers or a wardrobe and beds and a couple of chairs, but on the whole the house is very simply furnished – something we hope you will find liberating.

Around the house is a large mown lawn, perfect for children to play on, and just above the house sits a beautiful swimming pool, open for the summer months. The location of the farmhouse is such that this is the ideal location for someone who wants a really gentle family holiday surrounded by natural beauty. Walking trails and panoramic views are right on your doorstep, and trips out to markets and medieval towns punctuate lazy days eating, drinking and reading by the pool.

Further Details |
We have created this house as an escape from modern life. It has mod cons like a washing machine, and comforts like a pool, but you will not be able to spend your holiday on your BlackBerry and there is no TV or land telephone line. It is the perfect place to truly relax and get away from the hustle and bustle. But if you want some fun, there are lively towns and cities to visit. And if you want activity, the area has great walking opportunities and there are many other outdoor activities on offer, from hang-gliding to horse-riding. Please see our website for more information on things to do in the area. The medieval village of Monteleone di Fermo is 2km away and has a pizzeria whose terrace has the most beautiful views in all of Italy. There is also a small supermarket and a tennis court (and, of course, 2 churches!).

The beach at Porto San Giorgio and the seafood restaurants were a discovery.
