Further inland Kilkenny and Carlow are magnificent examples of the best of the Irish countryside. The city of Kilkenny itself is a lively and upbeat place to stay and and its medieval heritage makes it a fascinating place for holiday rentals. Outside in the country there are several excellent golf courses, more craft studios than you can shake a stick at and attractions like Dunmore Cave and Jerpoint Abbey. Carlow also has a reputation as a dynamic town, boasting festivals, river walks and beautiful gardens, among many other things.
