Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation |
|
| |
The greatest attraction is the spectacular Aillwee caves. Discovered in 1944 by a local farmer, the caves are estimated to be 2 million years old. With the largest passage 600m long and an abundance of stalactites and stalagmites the Aillwee caves are a dream come true for the cave-lover and potholer. The beaches and coast line are ideal for swimming, surfing, kayaking, scuba diving, boating and fishing. The lively pubs and up market restaurants in the area are indeed a joy for both locals and visitors. Close to the village is the restored Dun Guaire Castle. Built in the 16th century the castle is now open to the public to see many Irish traditions. A short drive down the coast brings you to the majestic Cliffs of Moher, battling daily with the Atlantic ocean. They rise in places to over 200 meters. Ferries serving the Aran Islands from Doolin Harbour during the summer. |
