Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation
The quiet village of Gourvillette is surrounded by open, gently rolling countryside and acres of vineyards and is perfect terrain for cycling, walking and horse-riding, not to mention photography, bird watching and golf. With the coast less than an hour away, it is within easy reach of the beautiful old harbour town of La Rochelle and the enchanting Ile d'Ré, whilst central to the superb ancient towns resting on the River Charente. In Cognac you can experience a distillery tour and visit local producers, and Saintes and Angouleme are also worth a visit. There are beautiful chateaux, waterways and Roman architecture to explore and La Charente is a wonderful location for fishing or boating. There are also several noted churches on the Saintonage-Compostelle route. The Charente Maritime region, providing mild springs and autumns with glorious long summers, is the perfect choice for your French escape.
