What is an earthship? Earthships are homes which heat and cool themselves naturally via solar / thermal dynamics; collect their own power from the sun and wind; harvest their own water from rain and snow melt; contain and treat their own sewage on site; produce a significant amount of food; constructed using largely the byproducts of modern society like cans, bottles and tyres. These homes were designed by a visionary biotect, Mike Reynolds in Taos, USA, and have been built all over the world. The French earthship is a fully furnished three bedroom gite with a kitchen and bathroom. It has the fixtures and fittings of any other more conventionally designed house, but with an eco twist. This rental offers the opportunity of experiencing earthship living first hand, and the viability of making it a blueprint for large scale sustainable developments in the future. |

Ger is a charming rural village in the heart of Normandy just over an hour’s drive from the ports. There are extensive forests in the area and endless walking and cycling routes nearby through the beautiful Normandy countryside. It is set in a tranquil part of Normandy and walking distance away from Ger. Ger is a small village with all the facilities needed for day-to-day holiday living including a bakery, butchers, post office and small supermarket. There is also a traditional French restaurant and a brasserie in the village. Mortain is the nearest local town with beautiful walks along ‘Les Cascades’ and breath-taking views as far away as Mont St Michel which is definitely worth a visit. Also beaches are within reach for a day trip such as Granvilles or the Normandy beaches in the North. |

It has east and west entrance doors with the west door opening into the kitchen / lounge / dining area. It features traditional oak beams, marble and granite floors and a sitting area. This room also has a ‘godin’ log burning stove. The kitchen area has table / chairs for six people, gas stove / oven, a Sunfrost 24 volt DC super insulated fridge / freezer and an internal planter. The utility room has additional storage and a washing machine. The bathroom has a grey water flushing toilet, basin, bath and shower. There is a new gas fired boiler in the utility room to boost the solar thermal system on dark winter days. Beyond is the dining room which has an extendable dining table. There are three bedrooms – two doubles (one with four poster and space for a cot) and one twin.

Further Details |
Europe’s first official Earthship home, with the beginnings of a large permaculture garden containing newly planted fruit trees, in a peaceful location close to Mortain. Perrine is a fully sustainable off grid Earthship. The property reflects the standard Earthship package in design and has been adapted to suit the European climate. When the energy performance certificate was done for Perrine, it came out at A and 0 for all carbon emissions. The men that did it said they were going to frame it as it's unheard of!

Refundable £100 damage deposit required. 25% deposit payment required at time of booking. No smoking. Dogs welcome but not allowed on the furniture. Bedding, towels and tea towels included. Laundry liquid, washing up liquid and cleaning products provided (all biodegradable products).
