Inside, it’s very comfortable as it is our well-loved holiday home (much tidier than our main home though!) and it has been furnished to a high standard with a mix of antique furniture, comfortable sofas, big rugs and original stone floors, yet with all modern conveniences including top of the range newly installed kitchen and bathroom, satellite TV, WiFi, HiFi, DVD player, and loads of games, books and films for your enjoyment. Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation |
|

The Pays de Bray is a truly beautiful part of Normandy: lush undulating farmland, green fields, lazy cows, apple orchards, and up by the sea the rugged white cliffs of the Alabaster coast… We have found that the house and grounds are such a wonderful place to just chill-out and recharge our batteries, whatever the weather, that we tend not to stray very far. But there is plenty to do and see near to this gite in Normandy, should you wish to explore…The nearest town, Forges les Eaux, is 10km. This delightful spa town has pretty lakes and woodland walks, a smart Casino, a Club Med with health spa, fishing, tennis, and an indoor/outdoor pool, as well as a selection of restaurants, bars and a weekly market. The Foret de Lyons, visible from the upstairs windows, at 10,000 hectares the 5th largest national forest in France. |

Interior Details |
Newly refurbished in 2006, the kitchen features top of the range units from Schmidt Kitchens, with granite worktops. There is a lovely old farmhouse table and a glass-fronted woodburning stove. The dining room features a large oak refectory table, comfortably seating 8 - perfect for candlelit suppers on cooler evenings when you don’t wish to eat outside… The downstairs double bedroom has a lovely antique French double bed. There is a triple bedroom at the opposite end of the house from the master bedroom and has a large antique oak sleigh bed and a separate single bed which features a pull-out “truckle” bed below. This room is ideal for two adults or three children. There is also a ‘mezzanine’ in the centre of the large open plan space and effectively separates the two sleeping areas. It features a fold-down sofa bed which can be used when there are four adults and four children staying.

Exterior Details |
Le Gaillon is a totally private gite in Normandy, situated on its own at the end of a long country lane - your only neighbours are the cows! It has its own 3000m2 garden, with breathtaking views over the surrounding countryside, all the way to the distant Foret de Lyons. In the summer soak up the sun on the south-facing suntrap terrace, have a barbecue, listen to the birdsong and the buzzing of the bees. Play table tennis, babyfoot, volleyball, and let the children roam and discover the wildlife in the large garden.

Further Details |
The stone construction of the house means that it remains lovely and cool in the summer months, yet retains the heat in the winter to keep it nice and cosy. There are two fireplaces -a large inglenook open fire in the living room, and a glass-fronted woodburning stove in the kitchen, which is vented in the chimney to provide extra heat in both the dining room and upstairs bedrooms. In addition there are electric radiators in all the rooms. Please note that although we welcome guests of all ages, there are a couple of points which parents of very young children should be aware of: there are no stairgates (due to the layout of the staircase it has been impossible to install one), the house has a shower but no bathtub (although we do have a baby bath for very young babies) , and there are no cupboard locks.

What visitors have said about Le Gaillon |
| |

Wonderful, peaceful week. Four legged neighbours kept visiting, only visitors all week. People in neighbouring towns and villages really helpful and friendly. Lyons-ls-Foret was stunning, lovely place to visit as well as the forest, so peaceful. The local cider is well worth a try (bit better than Strongbow) !!! The Normandy apple tarts were to die for. Would I come back? Like a shot. Thank you

The most perfect setting for a “chill-out” holiday. We have been so busy – doing nothing! Thank you :-)

Aysen and Paul, this is a cracking venue for a holiday. What Le Gaillon has, but is different than most, is serious character and we’ve enjoyed every minute. The huge garden has been great fun – the cows have been amused by our badminton and boules matches, but clearly preferred speedminton (check out on google) . We have enjoyed the spectacular Normandy countryside and architecture. A visit to Gerberoy is a must! Paris is 80 miles by road, we set off at 7.30am and were at our parking destination by 9.00am. Parking in Clichy was £17 for 8 hours – good value compared to London. Stunned by the size of the Eiffel Tower … Always great to head back to Le Gaillon after days out. Everyone scores this 10/10. A bientot, peut-etre”
“I loved staying here at Le Gaillon and thought the quiz was the best ever!” Holly (age 12)

Enjoying a well-deserved break here at Le Gaillon… Everyone’s really enjoying settling in to a relaxed way of life. The kids aren’t waking until 8am - bliss, they normally rise at about 6.30 at home! …Thursday and Friday were glorious, really hot. Had a great day at the beach - got there before the tide came in and the kids really enjoyed paddling in the sea, building sandcastles and exploring the rockpools… We’ve all had a lovely relaxing holiday and are sorry to leave but hope to visit again soon. thanks for letting us stay at your beautiful retreat

A wonderful time. The children have had a ball and we enjoyed the views, the cows, the stars, etc. Beautiful views from the terrace and early morning mist, late afternoon warmth, and night-time moon and stars. Cows very friendly. Could stay forever...

Two hours from Calais, in deep countryside, a solid little farmhouse just right for a family or close friends. Red terracotta tiles run throughout the ground floor; there’s a sitting room with fine oak ceiling beams, old-fashioned easy chairs, a brick fireplace with logs in winter, piles of videos, books and board games. In the dining room, a refectory table for eight, a patterned rug, a huge mirror; in the light, well-equipped kitchen, a table for six and a further fireplace. The master bedroom is also on this floor, with its feather-filled duvet and pretty patchwork quilt, and so is the one large shower room that the household shares. Then upstairs to a long, large, uncluttered sleeping space under the eaves - white, open, airy, all beautiful gnarled timbers and endless views. Stow most of the party up here and they’ll be happy. Fencing keeps the frisky cows framed in their buttercup meadow, leaving you the run of the pleasing garden. As dusk falls, you can sit, chat and barbecue as the poplars rustle and the fairylights twinkle like fireflies. Good value, gorgeous views.
