Le Gaillon is a totally private gite in Normandy in a large garden, with outstanding views over beautiful countryside. Inside, its very comfortable as it is our well-loved holiday home (much tidier than our main home though!) and it has been furnished to a high standard with a mix of antique furniture, comfortable sofas, big rugs and original stone floors, yet with all modern conveniences including top of the range newly installed kitchen and bathroom, satellite TV, WiFi, HiFi, DVD player, and loads of games, books and films for your enjoyment. All rooms overlook the garden and those upstairs have breathtaking views to the distant Foret de Lyons.
The Pays de Bray is a truly beautiful part of Normandy: lush undulating farmland, green fields, lazy cows, apple orchards, and up by the sea the rugged white cliffs of the Alabaster coast We have found that the house and grounds are such a wonderful place to just chill-out and recharge our batteries, whatever the weather, that we tend not to stray very far. But there is plenty to do and see near to this gite in Normandy, should you wish to explore The nearest town, Forges les Eaux, is 10km. This delightful spa town has pretty lakes and woodland walks, a smart Casino, a Club Med with health spa, fishing, tennis, and an indoor/outdoor pool, as well as a selection of restaurants, bars and a weekly market. Newly refurbished in 2006, the kitchen features top of the range units from Schmidt Kitchens, with granite worktops. There is a lovely old farmhouse table and a glass-fronted woodburning stove. The dining room features a large oak refectory table, comfortably seating 8 - perfect for candlelit suppers on cooler evenings when you dont wish to eat outside The downstairs double bedroom has a lovely antique French double bed. There is a triple bedroom at the opposite end of the house from the master bedroom and has a large antique oak sleigh bed and a separate single bed which features a pull-out truckle bed below. This room is ideal for two adults or three children. There is also a mezzanine in the centre of the large open plan space and effectively separates the two sleeping areas. It features a fold-down sofa bed which can be used when there are four adults and four children staying.
Le Gaillon is a totally private gite in Normandy, situated on its own at the end of a long country lane - your only neighbours are the cows! It has its own 3000m2 garden, with breathtaking views over the surrounding countryside, all the way to the distant Foret de Lyons. In the summer soak up the sun on the south-facing suntrap terrace, have a barbecue, listen to the birdsong and the buzzing of the bees. Play table tennis, babyfoot, volleyball, and let the children roam and discover the wildlife in the large garden.
The stone construction of the house means that it remains lovely and cool in the summer months, yet retains the heat in the winter to keep it nice and cosy. There are two fireplaces -a large inglenook open fire in the living room, and a glass-fronted woodburning stove in the kitchen, which is vented in the chimney to provide extra heat in both the dining room and upstairs bedrooms. In addition there are electric radiators in all the rooms. Please note that although we welcome guests of all ages, there are a couple of points which parents of very young children should be aware of: there are no stairgates (due to the layout of the staircase it has been impossible to install one), the house has a shower but no bathtub (although we do have a baby bath for very young babies) , and there are no cupboard locks.
