Further Details Swallows and Black Redstarts breed in the owner's barn every summer! Barn owls, deer and hares are all seen from time to time, and there is an abundance of resident red squirrels. Domfront town dates back to the 11th century, the first fortification being erected on a sandstone promontory, which overlooked the River Varene around 1010. Domfront was surrounded with deep moats and an enclosed wall built by Guillaume de Talvas. For many centuries Domfront castle was one of France’s strongholds due to its strategic position. Domfront has many excellent grills, restaurants, pizzerias & creperies as well as a choice of supermarkets, boulangeries and patisseries. With narrow streets, inner courtyards and half timbered houses it is a fine example of mediaeval architecture. It offers great exploring for young and old, through the winding cobbled streets. You can experience the castle ruins where excavations are ongoing, two historical churches dating back to 1020 and many other timbered historical buildings.

What visitors have said about Gite De Pierre
A group of our family and friends spent 5 nights here over New Year. The property and location were idyllic and truly relaxing. Both properties are perfect for children of all ages, safe and roomy yet retaining lots of character. Looking forward to returning in the Summer!

A wonderfully relaxed place to stay. The photographs on the website were surpassed in reality. The hosts Colin and Joy were both friendly and helpful. The property is set in the beautiful Normandy countryside so you will need a car to get around. You do not need to travel more than 1 hour in any direction to find places of interest to visit. Domfront is a charming little gem and we can recommend the guided city walk which brought the whole place to life. The staff at the local tourist information speak English and had an answer for all our questions. We definitely hope to visit again.

Beautifully restored country barn set in very peaceful location. A great base for many family excursions - including an impressive theme park Ange Michel (45 Mins), Bagnole de l'Orne - a beautiful town with plenty of decent restauarants situated around a stunning lake (20 Mins), and the local town of Domfront itself with its interesting walks and picturesque picnic spots (5 Mins). The welcoming owners Colin & Joy go the extra mile to make your visit as comfortable as possible. We shall certainly be returning - again.

We were a mixture of family members from 3yrs to nearly 93yrs. It was perfect in every way for every member of the family. Pleasantly central to lots of tourist bits to see and do, including the very enjoyable Domfront festival, yet within the peace of the countryside. Our hosts were a lovely couple offering advice before and during our trip. Thank you to them for a lovely stay.

We stayed at the Le Petit Lac in July 2009 and were truly impressed by what we saw. The Gites have been extensively renovated and they are finished to a very high standard. We stayed in the five bed Gite which is spacious, clean, well furnished with every bedroom having its own en-suite. Our rooms were very clean and spacious. While the accommodation was great it was clear to us that an integral part of the owners' strategy is to ensure that their clients receive the necessary support and guidance as appropriate to your needs. Colin and Joy ensured we received a very warm welcome, gave us a tour of the premises and a welcome gift of two bottles of bubbly. After a long drive from North Yorkshire that was just what we needed. You won’t be disappointed if you decide to stay at Le Petit Lac. It really is a wonderful place to unwind, sit back and enjoy the benefits of the locality. It would be hard to find a better place.

13 of us – 3 families comprising of 6 adults and 7 children - hired both gites for a week in August 2010. We had a fantastic holiday. The accommodation/grounds/hosts/surrounding area are all fantastic. Colin and Joy are the perfect hosts, and we were grateful for the excellent places they recommended for us to visit. Unfortunately, our week came to an end far too quickly. BUT, we do intend to return to Le Petit Lac as soon as we can. Thank you to Colin and Joy from the Crossley Family!
