Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation |
|
| |
Our house is in a relatively undiscovered corner of south-west France, with an incredible diversity of landscape and a rich cultural history.
Caylus, a few kilometres away, is a medieval village nestling in the valley of the river Bonnette, a tributary of the Aveyron. There is a beautiful square and church with a renowned wooden sculpture of Christ by Ossip Zadkine, a contemporary of Picasso's. You'll find a select choice of restaurants and bars, perfect for sitting and watching the world go by. If you're feeling more energetic there are tennis courts, and plenty of walking and cycling trails through the gorgeous countryside.
Also close by is ancient St Antonin Noble Val, deep in the Aveyron Gorge, with spectacular scenery and canoeing, kayaking, rock-climbing, pot-holing and hang-gliding. Other picturesque villages and towns such as Najac, Cordes-sur-Ciel, Bruniquel and Albi are a short drive away. Sample the famous wine of the local Gaillac and Cahors vineyards too. |

What visitors have said about Django |

A lovely gite in an idyllic setting. There is so much to see and do within an hour of Django. For the less energetic moments, a drink by the imposing abbey at Moissac, a leisurely lunch in the Place Nationale in Montauban; for the more energetic outings there are numerous walks locally, climb to the old city of Cordes-sur-Ciel, or simply challenge your children to a few lengths in the very welcome pool. A lovely holiday - could have happily stayed longer! PS We really appreciated the garden and its wildlife.

A lovely setting. Many thanks. Lots of lovely butterflies, dragonflies and crickets. Visits to the local markets, Najac, Bruniquel and Montauban, and lots of good French wine!

Nothing to do but sun ourselves by the luxury pool, and have barbecues in the evening. It has been the most perfect week. It feels like a new home from home in the sun. We have both fallen in love with Caylus. Can't wait to come back.

What a perfect place to escape to. Have spent 5 relaxing days sitting by the pool, eating. The countryside is stunning - the walk from the house is a must - the fairy grotto is something out of a Grimms fairy tale. The market at St Antonin provided us with everything we needed. My new basket will be very useful back in London but it's a shame I have to leave at all.

Django is indeed a perfect location for a wonderful holiday. Views, situation, stars at night and an impressive collection of audio tapes. The most enjoyable day was spent canoeing from St Antonin Noble Val to Cazals. The views of the Gorge can only be appreciated from the river, and the rapid waters were not too scary.
We love this place! Every comfort, views, meals on the terrace, music, wonderful food and wine. The pool......

We have all had a lovely time. The gite is great and all of the children have made full use of the pool. Many visits to places in the area. The caves at Pech Merle are certainly worth the trip. Local towns are very photogenic and many images have been taken home. Also a trip to Stade Toulousain fulfilled another ambition as we are all rugby fans! Kayaking in the Aveyron and walking in the Pyrenees (seeing the glaciers) kept the energetic busy! Something for everyone.

The pool, table tennis and boules have been well used and we've spent plenty of time spying the local wildlife with hoopoes, black redstarts and pied flycatchers the star picks at home and a short-toed eagle a real find not far away at Puylaroque. Canoeing and climbing have kept us busy for a couple of days, all from St Antonin. The markets at Caussade and St Antoin are well worth the trip. Further afield we've visited Albi and St Cirq Lapopie. The house has swallowed Mum and Dad, four children and two grandparents very capably and all in all we've had a great time.

This is our second visit to Django, and we revisited old haunts - Caylus, St Antonin and Cordes-sur-Ciel. This time we also went to Monpazat de Quercy (tapestries in the church of St Martin), Puylaroque and Penne where we had Sunday lunch on a terrace overlooking a spectacular view. The weather was mostly fine and we swam in the pool, ate on the terrace and did the circular walk round the gorge. We look forward to coming back to Django.

Our first visit to this part of France - what a secret delight! There is so much more than appears at first glance. Looking foward to exploring more. Caylus and especially St Antonin. St Cirq Lapopie worth a special detour. Looking forward to another visit.

We've had a wonderful week here at Django. Loved the house and all the outdoor activities - they were well used! We've had wonderful weather - clear blue skies and sunshine, but not too hot. The surrounding vilages are full of interest - we would have liked at least another week to explore more fully. For us, St Cirq Lapopie was the highlight.

Our second visit back to Django in six weeks, and just as good as the last time. Went to Tarn Gorge yesterday and saw bridge at Millau - well worth the journey! Managed to do more sightseeing this time, the whole place is just so quiet and peaceful. Thoroughly recommend Django for a perfect getaway from it all break.

Apart from the fabulous ambience and location of Django, the whole region has been a revelation to us. The history and sights of the area are magnificent and so unusual to not be bombarded by tourists. We'll look forward to returning to continue exploring the region between vigorous bouts of ping-pong.... We also want to recommend a visit to the mediaeval village of Najac, absolutely breathtaking! Until next time.

A wonderful house in a beautiful setting. Perfect place to get out and about around the pretty villages in the area. Nice to have a place so 'homely', with all the extra touches that make all the difference. Hope to be back!

Notable event of the week was the Petite Randonee no 3 from St Antonin accessed by taking a left turn by the College Bayrou up the old donkey road. Very long steep hill but the views from the top are spectacular. It is well signed all the way. Great way to spend three hours. Beware the downpour at the end!! This is our second visit and the peace and tranquillity remain. The house and all its amenities are superb and quickly create a home-from-home feel. Pity about the mixed weather but at least it provided an incentive to explore. We will look forward to more returns in the future.

Excellent accommodation, area and plenty of good roads. We have done about 600 miles whilst hear and it was well worth the 600+ to get here! Hope to be back soon.

Had a wonderful time at Django - such excellent accommodation in such a beautiful area. The week has been so relaxing. An amazing stay with fantastic weather. Great kayaking.

Lovely setting with all the required facilities. Lots of wildlife kept us entertained: the frogs, huge dragonflies, lizards, grasshoppers (suicidal), nightingales. Our kids (and their Dad) particularly enjoyed the 'woggles' (foam tubes) in the pool.

What a fantastic week. All eight guests extremely happy! Superb setting in a beautiful area. Canoeing down the river Aveyron under blue skies - the shute was fun and several rock balancing scenarios! The skies at night have been breathtaking, both with the stars and the incredible electric storm one night - what a show. I can't get over the huge numbers of bees, butterflies and humming bird moths on the lavender. The bushes are just alive. After a tour of the Gaillac area yesterday, today, last day we walked to St Antonin through the fantasy-land of lichen-dripping trees. Django is wonderful. So comfortable and well-equipped, though we have only spent time inside preparing food and sleeping, weather so good.

Had a fantastic time, great weather, lovely house. This is the perfect place to travel all over the south of France. Will recommend to friends and will be back next year. Thank you for the use of your house.

What a beautiful place. The sun has greeted us intermittently but when it shines the lavender is covered in butterflies, 15 species at the last count. As birdwatchers the garden and lane have been wonderful with nightingales, nightjars, scops owl, bonelli's warbler, cirl bunting, serin, wryneck and of course the resident black redstarts bringing up their family in the nest box on the terrace. The nearby Aveyron gorge has subalpine warbler, alpine swift and crag martin, and lots more nearby. So much to keep us entertained even when lounging by the pool. Hope to be back before too long.
