Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation |
|
| |
Chateau de Detilly is located on the flat land between the rivers Loire and Vienne which is in the centre of the Loire-Anjou-Touraine national park. The area is well known for its fine wines and agriculture and is frequently referred to as the “Garden of France”. This is perfect countryside for fishing, golf, cycling, walking and kayaking, as well as being a hive of activity for historical sightseeing. Places of particular interest are the Renaissance Chateaux at Chambord, Amboise and Blois and the tombs of the Plantagenets at the Abbaye Fontevraud. If you prefer less active pursuits then why not just have a picnic by the river Vienne, visit the open air markets or wander round one of the region’s small wineries, tasting the local produce. |

Interior Details |
The main rooms of the Chateau are elaborately decorated and sumptuously furnished in a pre-Revolutionary style. There are period pieces and antiques everywhere, from tapestries to chandeliers. It really has to be seen to be believed! There are 3 of these common rooms, the grand salon, a formal dining room and a more relaxed breakfast room, as well as a TV room, an office, a gourmet kitchen and a library. All you have to do is find the right place for your mood. On the bedroom floor there are 4 bedrooms with large windows and fireplaces, all en suite and furnished to make you feel like royalty. There is also a wonderful tower room with a 4 poster bed. On the top floor is a whole separate living area, with 3 bedrooms, a kitchen and a spacious ‘play’ room. The whole house is stunningly well-appointed and whichever room you’re in you will be surrounded by space, luxury and countryside views.

Exterior Details |
In the grounds of the Chateau there is a lovely, modern Coach House which is perfect for extra accommodation or entertaining space. Spacious and comfortable it is fully equipped, it has 3 bedrooms, a living room with conservatory and its own charming garden. Beside the main building there is also a historic chapel with gothic architecture, an intimate and beautiful venue for ceremonies of all kinds. The Orangerie and pool are a wonderful place for entertaining or relaxing and are set up so you never have to leave the poolside. The Orangerie itself is an impressive structure and the pool is lined with loungers, parasols, tables and chairs and a barbecue. Then there are the gardens, a little paradise, full of sweeping lawns, flower gardens, fountains and statues. With a private lake, a stunning rose garden, terraces and courtyards, this is a garden to take your breath away. As if this wasn’t enough the grounds also contain a tennis court, a volleyball court and a bocce court.

Further Details |
The Chateau has a very long history and although the house as it stands was rebuilt in the 16th century, there has been a building on this site since Roman times. There are traditional architectural details everywhere, from the 40 foot arch you pass through when you arrive to the oldest part of the building, in the tower. Inside, the house is no less decadent. Throughout the common rooms there are pieces like antique chandeliers, original oil paintings and walnut panelling, all of which contribute to the aura of grandeur. The bedrooms are enormous and beautifully decorated, but they also have the modern comforts of feather down duvets and Egyptian cotton linen. The top level of the Chateau can be made into a completely separate living area and rooms like the ‘Honeymoon Suite’ are simply extraordinary, not to mention the wonderful views across the trees from every room up here.

What visitors have said about Chateau de DeTilly |
| |
| |
Very nice to be able to help ourselves to vegetables from the kitchen garden. Tennis court excellent. Swimming pool excellent - at least as good as the photograph. Right temp and size. Large quantities of swimming towels a real plus-very useful. Coach House worked out just right for teen-age children. Chateau generally - the various websites described the Chateau in glowing terms in words and pictures. In spite of this, it was in reality, even better. It had a more human dimension than I expected. And the gardens, particularly the planting along the driveway, the hanging baskets and the terrace were much prettier and more welcoming than the photographs suggested. There was a truly wonderful feel to the place. Even the surrounding area - fields of sunflowers - was more attractive than expected.
Overall a wonderful holiday. Many thanks.

Far exceeded our expectations, the photographs on the website do not do justice to this lovely house. We’ll return.

When my girlfriend chose Detilly for me to have all my friends to my 30th birthday party I had no idea how clever she was. Gill co-ordinated everything so that all of us will treasure the week; we were pampered, we partied! Superb!

Breathtaking roses, delicious gardens, great.

David, our two weeks spent at the Chateau Detilly have been positively magical. In all the years of renting villas in fabulous European destinations none can compare with our time spent here. We very much hope to be returning soon and will savor the memories for a lifetime. With appreciation!

Thank you, thank you and thank you for a wonderful setting and great service, although it is a private home, we were made to feel we were staying at a small luxury hotel.

This is the location for a wedding, so private, so special and everyone was so kind and helpful. We felt we were very lucky and pampered; thank you to the owner and his superb staff.

How do I start to describe the most beautiful place I have stayed in. The chef produced meals we all enjoyed and the local wine was so much better than we expected. This is a must for a return visit.
