Caux is a small, quiet village surrounded by vineyards. The village has 2 bakeries, 2 butchers, general store, chemist, post-office, 2 bars, grocery store, wine cave - all within 5 minutes' walk of the property. Mediterranean beaches lie 25 minutes to the south. The chic resorts of Sète and Cap d'Agde 30 minutes. All water sports at the beaches as well as the spectacular Lake Salagou (35 minutes) and river rafting (30 minutes). Golf at Béziers (25 minutes) as well as excellent restaurants and hypermarkets. Montpellier is less than an hour for extra-special shopping excursions and superb pavement cafés! |

Entering directly into the living room, you will see the original high vaulted ceiling that formed part of the original rampart fortress. Beautifully restored to an extremely high standard, the property is a tasteful and fascinating mixture of original features and modern necessities, including high-speed internet access and air-conditioning. All fixtures and fittings have been carefully thought-out and chosen for their aesthetic values and practicality. A fantastic winding staircase lifts you throughout the house - its huge master bedroom, large, immaculate bathroom, summer kitchen and living area. Please note that the second bedroom is a mezzanine that offers limited headroom.

Further Details |
Caux is a pretty village with a medieval core that dates back to the 10th century. The church of Caux is actually recorded in the "livre noir" (literally 'black book') that was published back in 1172. Today Caux is a thriving village, even if the population is less than 2000 inhabitants. Like many medieval communities, Caux was built on a circular plan around the church, and the more modern 18th, then 19th-century buildings have just increased the size of this circle. The old part of the village has retained its medieval charm, and here and there you will see remains of the fortifications, including two impressive doorways in the remains of the ramparts, one with a sculpted fleur de lys blason that managed to somehow survive the 1789 revolution. Throughout the old quarter you will also see archways, mullioned windows, and elaborately carved doors of houses in the narrow streets.

All rentals are payable in British Pounds Sterling or Euros. Prices are for the rental of the entire property listed, per week. Bookings run from Saturday 4pm to Saturday 10am and include electricity, water, linen and towels (not beach towels). Property not suitable for children under 10. Please note that a 40-foot open-tread spiral staircase makes this house unsuitable for children and/or adults with hip, leg or other mobility problems.
